Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Controls Technician to support the maintenance and operation of Direct Digital Control (DDC) and Energy Management Systems (EMS) across a large public school district in Los Angeles County.
This role will support district-wide HVAC controls operations, troubleshooting, commissioning activities, energy efficiency initiatives, and preventive maintenance efforts. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with building automation systems, HVAC controls, networking fundamentals, and field troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the EMS Supervisor with daily operations and field activities related to HVAC Direct Digital Controls (DDC) and Energy Management Systems (EMS)
- Assist with HVAC controls design reviews and submittal evaluations
- Analyze utility and energy consumption data to identify opportunities for recommissioning and energy optimization
- Review EMS alarms, trend logs, and system data to identify preventive maintenance and energy conservation opportunities
- Conduct field inspections and site evaluations of existing HVAC controls and EMS infrastructure
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, calibrate, and repair HVAC controls systems and related electrical/DDC components
- Implement low-cost repair solutions and operational improvements for existing EMS/DDC systems
- Respond to service calls and support ongoing maintenance activities across multiple facilities
- Assist with in-house commissioning and retro-commissioning projects
- Collaborate with technical support teams, maintenance staff, and project stakeholders to improve system performance and reliability
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience as an HVAC Controls Technician, DDC Technician, BAS Technician, or similar role
- Experience working with Building Automation Systems (BAS), Direct Digital Controls (DDC), or Energy Management Systems (EMS)
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems and facility operations
- Ability to troubleshoot HVAC controls, electrical systems, sensors, actuators, and DDC components
- Working knowledge of computer networking fundamentals, including system configuration, connectivity, and troubleshooting
- Experience performing system startup, calibration, testing, and diagnostics
- Ability to read and interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in the field
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting K-12, municipal, healthcare, or large campus facilities
- Familiarity with commissioning or retro-commissioning projects
- EPA, HVAC, or controls-related certifications are a plus
- Experience with major BAS platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Trane, Honeywell, or Schneider Electric preferred
