The Prince William County Department of Social Services, Public Assistance Division, is seeking a full-time Senior Human Services Specialist to join our team. About This Role:

In this role, you will review applications and determine eligibility for SNAP and Medicaid in accordance with established program policies. This position primarily focuses on ABD MA eligibility determinations but also requires the ability to accurately determine F&C/MAGI Medicaid eligibility.

This role is well-suited for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and can effectively manage a high-volume workload while maintaining strong organization skills, attention to detail, accuracy, and compliance with policy standards.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Conducting client interviews to gather and verify eligibility information
  • Reviewing applications and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Interpreting and applying complex SNAP and Medicaid program policies
  • Entering and maintaining case information in the Virginia Department of Social Services' online eligibility system (VaCMS) and other state eligibility systems
  • Making accurate and timely eligibility determinations
  • Documenting case actions and eligibility determinations in accordance with policy standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or G.E.D and 4 years of experience determining eligibility for public assistance programs in VACMS

Preferences:

  • 5 or more years of experience determining eligibility for SNAP using VaCMS
  • 5 or more years of experience determining eligibility for Aged, Blind and Disabled (ABD) using VaCMS
  • 4 or more years of experience determining eligibility for MAGI and Families & Children Medicaid using VaCMS
  • 2 years of experience independently troubleshooting and successfully resolving VaCMS system issues
  • Bilingual Spanish/English

Special Requirements:

  • Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William County foster-care program may not be employed by the Prince William County Department of Social Services. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.
  • All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster.
  • Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services, and DMV background checks.
  • Staff in this position must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive for work.

Work Schedule:

37.5 hours per week – Monday – Friday. Manager will determine specific work schedule (between the hours of 8:00am to 5:00 pm)

Staff in this position are eligible to telework but may be required to report to the office intermittently. Employees who telework must have adequate workspace and internet connection. Telework eligibility is subject to change as business needs warrant; there is no guarantee of future telework.

Hiring Salary Range

$65,910.00 - $92,907.75 Annually
