Job Description

HR Work Place Practices (WPP) involves proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential risks associated with employees and workforce management. This includes addressing risks related to employee behavior, legal compliance, employment practices, and workplace policies. Effective HR WPP helps organizations reduce liabilities, avoid costly disruptions, and maintain a positive work environment.

The Sr. HR Manager ensures an organization adheres to employment laws and regulations. They develop and implement compliance policies, conduct audits, provide training, and investigate complaints. They also stay updated on changes in employment law and advise leadership on potential risks.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Laws and Regulations: Knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as industry-specific regulations. Monitor and interpret changes in employment legislation and regulatory requirements ensuring organizational compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local employment laws. Ensure policies remain legally compliant and operationally effective.
  • Developing and Implementing Compliance Programs: Creating and maintaining policies, procedures, and documentation for business implementation to ensure compliance.
  • Develop compliance strategies and implementation plans, conduct periodic audits of HR practices to identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Investigating and Resolving Compliance Issues: Supports the EVP of HR Risk Management as requested for federal, state and regulatory claims, complaints and litigation. Serve as a subject matter expert and escalation contact on complex or highly sensitive investigations and employee relations matters. Provide guidance to
  • HR and management regarding employee discipline, corrective action, and terminations.
  • Regulatory filing: Work with HR Operations supporting all governmental, state or federal, regulatory filing and reporting including but not limited to EEO, ACA, Wage
  • Reporting, mandatory state filings etc… Subject matter expert with required participating departments for data compilation, accuracy and integrity to ensure timely responses are filed on behalf of Company.
  • Training and Education: Educating employees and managers on compliance matters, developing and training on workplace practices and other topics as assigned.
  • Audits and Assessments: Regularly reviewing practices and procedures to identify potential compliance gaps for opportunities for audits and assessments.
    Collaborating with Other Departments: Working with HR - Risk Management, Legal, IT, Operations and other teams to ensure compliance across the organization.
  • Advising Leadership: Communicating potential risks and areas for improvement to leadership.
  • Maintaining Records: Keeping accurate and up-to-date records to demonstrate compliance.
  • Promoting a Positive Work Culture: Implementing best practices for fostering an ethical and inclusive workplace.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of employment laws and regulations: Understanding of federal, state, and local laws related to employment, discrimination, wages, etc.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to identify potential compliance issues and develop solutions
  • Communication and interpersonal skills: Effective communication with employees, managers, and other stakeholders
  • Organizational skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Research and analytical skills: Ability to stay informed about changes in employment law and regulations
  • Project management skills: Ability to plan, execute, and monitor compliance initiatives.
  • Technical proficiency: Ability to use HR software and other compliance tools.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Several years of HR experience, ideally with a focus on compliance.
  • Certifications: SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or other relevant certifications are preferred.
