Senior Human Resources Generalist

Department: Human Resources

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Cambridge

Compensation: $85,000 - $95,000 / year


As our Senior Human Resources Generalist, you will build strong, trusting relationships across all levels of the organization. Through partnering with employees, union members, and leaders, you will provide guidance on a broad range of human resources and labour relations matters. Priorities include supporting recruitment across technical, unionized, and professional roles, providing support to the Payroll Specialist and Human Resources Specialist and contributing to key committees and business initiatives. You will coach on employee and labour relations matters including employee development, performance management, interpretation of our collective agreement, and managing the grievance process. As a trusted resource, a high degree of professionalism and discretion is required.

Areas of Responsibility include:

Employee & Labour Relations

  • Advise and coach leaders on policy and collective agreement interpretation, performance management and employee relations matters
  • Lead investigations and conflict resolution concerns
  • Manage/oversee absence and return-to-work programs
  • Support collective agreement administration
  • Participate in union meetings, grievance processes, arbitrations and negotiations as needed
  • Analyze HR data and metrics to determine actions and outcomes
  • Champion CGT’s safety and environmental programs

Recruitment

  • Support the full recruitment cycle, including job postings, screening of applications, scheduling and conducting interviews, coordination of tours and appropriate tests, conduct reference and background checks and finalize job offers
  • Manage any 3rd party recruiting relationships
  • Support hiring managers with role requirements, update job descriptions
  • Work with leaders on departmental/team structure and optimization of work


Other

  • Plan and execute employee events and other culture initiatives, support community partnerships
  • Update policies to reflect legislative changes and best practices
  • Support HR technology upgrades and implementations
  • Participate as needed in business initiatives

Required Qualifications, Education & Experience:

  • University or College degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field
  • CHRP or CHRL
  • 5–7 years of progressive HR experience as a generalist in a unionized environment, preferably in manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation, labour law, and HR best practices
  • Proven experience in employee relations, investigations, and performance management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead HR projects and drive process improvements
  • Proficient with HRIS systems (Dayforce preferred) and HR data analytics
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Experience using data and insights to support decision-making
