As a Senior HSE Manager, you will be responsible to the Worley Program Director to establish a HSE strategy and to develop a HSE culture on the Program that achieves Worley and client objectives. This will involve the building of key relationships with client leadership and also to build a HSE team that will ensure the project teams promote positive safety behaviour, monitor, audit and manage Site health and safety performance in line with legislative requirements and assist Management and Contractors with the implementation of Health and Safety Management activities for the Program.

This is a Senior Leadership role, initially based in Brisbane or Adelaide to support our Project Team as they develop the project execution planning and prepare for delivery. The role will then transition to Site on a fly in fly out basis typically 2 weeks on, 1 week of rotation.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the HSE team and partner with project leadership to deliver strong health and safety performance, positive safety culture, and agreed project objectives.
  • Establish, implement and maintain project HSE systems, plans, procedures and documentation, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards and Worley requirements.
  • Develop and oversee contractor alignment, mobilisation, post-mobilisation reviews, periodic assessments and verification against project HSE requirements.
  • Provide visible leadership across site activities, including safety interactions, inspections, audits, Critical Risk Management verifications and contractor compliance checks.
  • Lead hazard identification, risk management, Construction Risk Assessment Workshops, monthly risk reviews and corrective action planning.
  • Oversee incident, near-miss and hazard reporting, investigations, injury management, corrective actions and reporting through required assurance systems.
  • Coordinate HSE forums, committees, leadership meetings, training programs, workforce communications and safety initiatives.
  • Review leading and lagging HSE performance indicators, identify trends, and advise project leadership on improvement actions.
  • Lead emergency management and site security services, ensuring required training, resources and arrangements are in place.
  • Support dispute resolution and work with EPCM teams and contractors to achieve project HSE KPIs.

What you’ll have

  • A recognized HS qualification, strong knowledge of the relevant HS legislation and standards.
  • Experience as a Senior HS Manager / Director in a similar role within the Construction or Mining sector, relevant years of experience as an HS Manager within the construction industry in Australia, preferably in an EPCM or EPC delivery model on projects more than $1b in capital value
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to show leadership in the field, proven strategic ability and be able to influence behaviours, particularly of contracting partners.
  • Extensive technical, practical and leadership experience in HS including experience in strategic planning and demonstrable experience in driving industry leadership in HS performance. Experience in building strong people relationships, general management practices and experience in managing and leading a team.
  • Proven ability to lead the development of a strong positive safety culture.
