Auckland Council’s Healthy Waters and Flood Resilience (HW&FR) department has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Healthy Waters Specialist within the Wai Ora Urban Partnerships team.

This role has a strong flood resilience focus and will play a key role in delivering and potentially leading the Community Flood Resilience Programme, while also supporting related local board initiatives.

You will work alongside communities, local boards, and internal teams to strengthen flood preparedness, improve catchment resilience, and support community-led adaptation responses. This role blends programme leadership, community engagement, and project delivery.

As part of this role, you will build trusted relationships, guide strategic direction, and ensure flood resilience initiatives are delivered effectively and collaboratively.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

• Manage the Community Flood Resilience Programme
• Build and develop partnerships to improve flood preparedness and community resilience outcomes
• Work with local boards to scope, plan and deliver flood resilience initiatives
• Prepare and coordinate programme plans, budgets and reporting
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard
• Maintain appropriate data management and reporting frameworks
• Provide subject matter input into flood resilience planning and community activation initiatives
• Collaborate with operations, planning and technical teams across the HW&FR department

He kōrero mōu: About you

You will bring strong programme or project leadership experience, with a passion for working alongside communities to build practical flood resilience outcomes, while at the same time having understanding of freshwater ecosystems, environmental pressures, urban communities and water quality outcomes.

Specifically, we are looking for:

• Proven experience in flood resilience, stormwater management, catchment management or related fields
• Strong understanding of urban flooding challenges and community-based adaptation approaches
• Proven experience working with Mana Whenua to support Māori outcomes
• Experience working with local boards, elected members or community governance groups
• Strong financial and budget management capability
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Competency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and reporting tools) and experience in AI usage
• Full & valid NZ driver’s licence
