Your contribution!

The Senior Health & Safety (HS) Manager – Development and Construction will report to the Senior Director, HS and work closely with functional and regional teams to provide guidance and support through the prospective, development and construction phases of projects. The new position would have responsibility for providing HS support for the whole development and construction portfolio in North America.

Your day-to-day!

Prospective Phase:

  • Conduct an initial Site-Specific Risk Assessment (SSRA) and use this to develop and assign training for staff visiting the site based on the limited hazards they will encounter;
  • Manage the contractor pre-qualification process for contractors bidding on service and supply contracts;
  • Provide guidance and support for HS strategy for it to align with the preferred contractual approach for the project (EPC vs multi-contract etc.). This would include guidance related to owner vs contractor HS responsibility;
  • Provide guidance and support for including appropriate HS content in all contracts – aligned with HS strategy.

Development Phase:

  • Ensure HS responsibility is clearly defined in any new equipment supply or service contracts;
  • Provide consideration of HS in system design;
  • Produce an initial Emergency Response Plan to satisfy stakeholders;
  • Produce handover documents for construction;
  • Update SSRA and assign additional training requirements as required.

Construction Phase:

  • Assist with site contractor management – specifically related to HS – monitoring, audit and escalation:
    • Develop audit protocols and undertake internal audits at agreed frequencies;
    • Oversee any external audits.
  • Assist with all site HS reporting requirements and liaise with contractors relating to incident investigation. Ensure all reporting is documented in company systems (LPIS);
  • Manage all Pre-Operation HS adoption activities:

    • Update SSRA for it to be aligned with Operational activities;
    • Manage HS training plans for new operations staff, including the delivery of training where necessary (for example electrical safety, confined spaces, Loss Prevention System (LPS), etc.);
    • Conduct First Aid Assessment (FAA) and identify site equipment and training required;
    • Prepare First Aid procedures based on FAA.
  • Identify and purchase site HS equipment to comply with the complete Innergex Safety Management System.

Monitoring and reporting:

  • Produce weekly reports based on HS activity in development and construction phases and prepare summary content for monthly and quarterly reports.

Your skills, our requirements!

  • Excellent knowledge of HS laws and standards in both Canada and the USA;
  • Ability (and eligibility) to travel regularly throughout both Canada and the USA;
  • Excellent communication skills – written and spoken;
  • Experience in a variety of construction and operations type roles;
  • Bilingual in English and French would be an asset;
  • Minimum 5 years experience in HS supervisory roles related to large scale projects;
  • Minimum of 7 years in HS related roles;
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs;
  • Experience developing and conducting HS audits to ISO 45001 standards;
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent based on experience);
  • Professional HS designation (for example CRSP);
  • Professional auditor accreditation desirable (for example ISO, COR);
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office;
  • Experience using HS specific software for incident investigation, loss prevention, training management.

Additional considerations!

  • The position can be based in the company's Longueuil (Quebec) headquarters or Vancouver (BC) office;
  • This position is a P4 level.

Pay Transparency Statement

Compensation for roles at Innergex varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, education, and level of experience. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.

In the spirit of pay transparency we are excited to share the base salary for the position is $105 000 - $130 000, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you are hired by Innergex, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
