Job Description

Double Good is a leading fundraising app and best-in-class technology company redefining how youth organizations raise funds for the causes they care about. Teams run short, high-impact fundraisers by selling delicious popcorn through personalized Pop-Up Stores, keeping 50% of every sale. Thousands of schools and teams nationwide use Double Good to raise meaningful funds quickly and easily.

Guided by our mission to create joy, Double Good also supports the Double Good Kids Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that exists to spark joy for children with special needs and the people who care for them through inclusive experiences and spaces that foster play, connection, and possibility.

Double Good has been recognized on the Inc. 5000 list 18 times and ranked No. 13 on Crain’s Chicago Business Fast 50 list in 2025, and it continues to grow while staying focused on impact.

In recent years, Double Good has seen 40% year over year growth, and we’re excited about our future! We’re excited about the possibility of you joining our mission. We are looking for a Senior Health and Safety Manager to join our growing team.

Location - This role will be onsite based at our Burr Ridge, IL location and will require occasional visits to our Elmhurst, IL facility

The Senior Health and Safety Manager will architect and champion Double Good’s safety-first culture across our two Chicago-area popcorn manufacturing plants — designing programs, leading the hourly Safety Committee, and partnering with Operations to anticipate risk before it becomes incident.

Scope and Range:

You lead Health & Safety strategy and execution across two manufacturing facilities (Burr Ridge, IL and Elmhurst, IL) with regular partnership with our downtown Chicago corporate office. The role owns Workers’ Compensation through our TPA, OSHA-facing reporting, site security, and emergency response. You also own day-to-day environmental compliance that lives within H&S (hazardous waste manifests, SDS management, SPCC awareness, environmental vendor management); broader environmental scope sits with Operations and Facilities. You partner with Quality and Food Safety so H&S complements our GMP, HACCP, and FSMA programs.

Responsibilities:

Safety Program & Strategy

  • Lead the design and continuous improvement of H&S programs, policies, and procedures across both plants — calibrated to the specific risks of food/snack manufacturing.
  • Own the H&S scorecard: TRIR, DART, LTIR, severity, near-miss reporting rate, observation rate, training completion, and audit-closure SLA. Translate metrics into action plans the Operations leadership team can run with.
  • Manage vendor relationships and service contracts (PPE, training, industrial hygiene, audit partners) and own the H&S budget.
  • Stay ahead of OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and Illinois EPA changes; brief leadership on impact before regulation hits the floor.

Site-Level Risk Management

  • Build risk-based audit and inspection programs tailored to each plant’s footprint, equipment, and hazards.
  • Lead Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and PPE assessments for every role on the floor; refresh on a defined cadence.
  • Drive the technical program work that matters in popcorn/snack manufacturing — combustible dust (NFPA 652 / NFPA 61), flammable liquids handling (NFPA 30), static electricity controls (NFPA 77), powered industrial trucks (PIT/forklift), LOTO, machine guarding, confined space, hot work, packaging-line ergonomics, and chemical safety.
  • Partner with Quality and Food Safety so H&S decisions complement (not conflict with) our GMP, HACCP, and FSMA programs.

Training & Engagement

  • Identify training needs and build programs that are engaging, inclusive, and behavior-changing — for employees, supervisors, contractors, and visitors.
  • Define high-risk training requirements and maintain company-wide training records.
  • Chair the hourly-employee Safety Committee as the primary engine for proactive observations and peer-led safety conversations.

Incident Investigation & Workers’ Compensation

  • Lead investigations with rigorous root-cause analysis and time-bound corrective actions; track recurrence to zero.
  • Serve as Double Good’s primary contact with OSHA — inspections, inquiries, and annual reporting (300A and related).
  • Manage Workers’ Compensation end-to-end through our TPA: claim filing, online claims management, monthly loss runs, reportable/problematic claim review, and underwriter conversations on trends and exposures.
  • Prepare management reports on claims with net exposure and recommend program changes to reduce frequency and severity.

Site Security & Emergency Response

  • Build and maintain a comprehensive site-security framework — camera and badge access, contractor/visitor controls, and physical premises protection.
  • Develop and exercise emergency response plans (severe weather, fire, active threat, utility interruption) in coordination with local authorities and site leadership.

Culture & Future Team

  • No direct reports today. As the function matures, partner with the People Team on a workforce plan that may include site safety coordinators and an EHS specialist.
  • Influence at every level — from the line operator at 6 a.m. to the executive team — and make safety personal, not procedural.

Required Experience:

  • 7+ years in a safety leadership role in food, beverage, CPG, or similar manufacturing/warehousing — multi-site exposure preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field — or equivalent experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA General Industry (29 CFR 1910), recordkeeping (29 CFR 1904), and combustible-dust NFPA standards (652, 61, 30, 77).
  • Demonstrated track record building a proactive safety culture — Safety Committees, behavior-based safety, near-miss programs.
  • Proven incident investigation and root-cause chops; comfortable presenting findings to senior leadership.
  • Workers’ Compensation experience: TPA management, loss-run analysis, underwriter conversations.
  • Excellent communication — translates regulation into plain language for hourly teams and executive summaries for leadership.
  • Comfortable on a manufacturing floor — varied hours, occasional off-shift presence, PPE-required environment.

Nice to Have:

  • CSP, ASP, or CIH certification.
  • OSHA 500 / 501 authorized outreach trainer.
  • HACCP / PCQI awareness — supports partnership with Quality and Food Safety.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Prior experience standing up or scaling a safety function (greenfield or expansion).
