Location: Remote

The Senior Health and Safety Compliance Specialist is a senior-level technical and leadership role responsible for leading complex H&S compliance projects, mentoring staff, managing client relationships, and ensuring the highest standards of technical quality, safety, and professional integrity. This position requires advanced regulatory knowledge, independent judgment, and the ability to apply novel approaches to solving complex compliance challenges.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in H&S compliance, site assessments, and regulatory reporting at industrial facilities
  • Working knowledge of exposure monitoring strategies, sampling plans, and Industrial Hygiene reporting methodologies
  • Extensive experience in providing engaging H&S training to groups of employees
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to independently write reports with minimal review comments
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Proven leadership, mentoring, and coaching abilities
  • High level of professional ethics and commitment to EH&S values and operating principles
  • Ability to work remotely, with minimal direct supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast‑paced consulting environments with shifting priorities
  • Ability to work as a team member, collaborating with other employees and clients
  • Ability to travel, up to 75%

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing, implementing, and auditing Process Safety Management/Risk Management Plan programs
  • Experience with implementing exposure monitoring, interpreting data, and writing Industrial Hygiene reports summarizing data and offering recommendations to reduce or eliminate exposure.
  • Experience as an expert witness.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Possess and maintain comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and legal requirements including a strong knowledge of OSHA General and Construction Industry standards, with the ability to interpret federal and state OSHA regulations, NFPA, NIOSH and ANSI standards
  • Assess workplace hazards and risks and recommend preventive measures for mitigation, with a strong understanding of various industries, processes, and potential dangers.
  • Audit existing H&S programs and safety practices to identify compliance gaps and recommend improvements to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Design and help implement safety management systems, create policies, procedures, and guidelines to promote safe practices and ensure consistent documentation across the organization
  • Identify systemic issues by investigating root causes, analyzing incidents, and proposing corrective actions.
  • Understand ergonomic principles, ensuring workspaces are designed for optimal safety and comfort.
  • Assess chemical handling, storage, and disposal practices and recommend protective measures to prevent exposure.
  • Conduct in-person or remote training including safety stand-downs or daily debriefs for employees and management.
  • Develop educational materials such as toolbox talks, compliance cheat sheets, or guidance documents.
  • Support internal stakeholders within and across Service Lines to provide technical assistance on safety related compliance projects and effectively manage quality deliverables.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with client personnel by effectively communicating safety recommendations and addressing concerns. · Provide onsite H&S support to help manage day-to-day H&S tasks at client sites, as needed.

Additional Responsibilities to be Developed in the Role

Technical Leadership & Compliance

  • Independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge of H&S principles and regulatory practices.
  • Develop and implement novel or adapted approaches to resolve complex technical and regulatory challenges.
  • Lead the technical scope and execution of large, complex projects (typically >$75K) or manage multiple smaller projects (>$100K total).
  • Maintain project profitability and proactive manage scope, assumptions, and client expectations to minimize write-offs and maintain client relationships.
  • Serve as lead author and final technical decision-maker (“gatekeeper”) on complex, non-routine deliverables.
  • Conduct and oversee technical reviews of routine and increasingly complex reports not materially authored by you.
  • Present project results and recommendations to clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Make and advocate for data-driven technical and strategic recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities for follow-on work based on technical findings and client needs.

Project Management

  • Lead project scoping, planning, and execution for projects of all sizes and complexity.
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency in schedule, scope, budget, and financial management.
  • Successfully manage medium, routine projects ($25K–$75K) with minimal write-offs.
  • Develop project management skills on large, complex programs or portfolios.

Health, Safety & Culture

  • Act as a role model for H&S policies, procedures, and programs, fostering a strong safety culture.
  • Facilitate training and education to ensure compliance with H&S requirements.
  • Promote open dialogue around health and safety and support continual improvement initiatives.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Routinely interact with clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and the public.
  • Lead internal project meetings and non-routine or complex client or agency meetings.
  • Represent clients at public meetings and industry working groups.
  • Represent the company at conferences or professional forums, including presenting novel approaches or key findings.
  • Develop and maintain long-term client relationships, including managing a client portfolio.
  • Handle complex client issues and influence organizational change within client organizations.
  • Contribute to the overall strategic direction of client relationships.

Business Development

  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of company and service line capabilities.
  • Prepare accurate proposal packages for small to medium opportunities ($0–$75K) and develop proficiency with larger proposals (>$75K).
  • Lead or support strategic growth plans and marketing initiatives.
  • Engage in direct client outreach and targeted business development efforts, including at conferences and industry events.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of relevant experience, or
  • Master’s degree with 13+ years of relevant experience
