Due to internal growth, we’re looking for an exceptional Senior Health & Safety Advisor to play a key role in our civil construction business, based out of our office in Christchurch (Belfast).

You’ll work alongside a capable team of Health & Safety specialist, supporting multiple projects across the South Island and lower North Island, helping us deliver the quality work we’re known for safely, every time.

With your deep industry knowledge, authentic leadership and high integrity, you’ll get everyone on the waka and pulling in the same direction.

You’ll be keen to be out on site, shoulder to shoulder with our crews, providing hands on Health & Safety leadership where it really counts. You’ll coach, mentor and advise our high-performing civil project teams, making sure our people, clients and subcontractor partners go home safe every day.

Reporting directly to the South Civil H&S Manager, you’ll be a key driver of our Living Safely journey, turning good intentions into practical, everyday behaviours on every site you support.

In addition to the above you will:

  • Drive a positive, open safety culture on site where everyone is empowered to speak up.
  • Provide visible, hands-on H&S support to frontline teams, subcontractors and clients.
  • Lead risk assessments, safety audits, site inspections and ensure follow-through on actions.
  • Lead and support incident investigations, identifying root causes and driving practical corrective actions.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, inductions and H&S training that builds confidence and lifts safety capability.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of H&S systems, plans, policies and initiatives across your projects.
  • Promote operational ownership of H&S, supporting leaders to meet and exceed H&S KPIs.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with stakeholders to influence safer ways of working.
  • Maintain accurate H&S documentation in line with legal and company requirements.
  • Stay current on industry best practice and regulatory changes, bringing fresh thinking to site safety.

This is a role that requires strong and credible safety leadership with a number of different day-to-day responsibilities so you must have the ability to manage multiple tasks, working in both a re-active and pro-active environment.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Hold a relevant tertiary qualification in Health & Safety or equivalent
  • Have 5+ years’ experience preferably within a contracting and construction environments
  • Have hands-on experience with incident investigation, risk management, and safety audits
  • Be a strong, effective communicator, confident and able to influence and attract engagement
  • Hold a class 1 driver’s licence
  • Flexible to travel across the South Island and lower North Island area
  • Solid knowledge of applicable acts, standards and regulations relating to Health & Safety compliance in civil construction activities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build trust and respect with a diverse workforce at all levels.
  • Advanced skills such as conflict resolution, negotiation & change management.
  • Ability to gather and analyse data, research, compile information and prepare reports
  • Awareness of Safety II and HOP principles
