Opportunity Overview

Teradyne's Integrated Systems Test (IST) Hardware Engineering team is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to support the integration, deployment, and troubleshooting of sophisticated electronic hardware used in our system-level test products.

Based in Sunnyvale, California, this hands-on engineering role will work closely with Teradyne and customer engineering teams to integrate new hardware, investigate interoperability issues, reproduce and diagnose complex technical problems, and drive issues to resolution. The position requires strong board-level engineering fundamentals and the ability to investigate problems at the circuit, board, and system level.

  • Lead hands-on integration, hardware bring-up, characterization, validation, and troubleshooting of Teradyne hardware with customer systems and devices.
  • Investigate complex hardware and system interoperability issues, reproduce customer-observed problems, develop experiments, and drive root-cause analysis and resolution.
  • Analyze schematics, circuit behavior, interfaces, board-level power, and high- and low-speed digital signals using oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, digital multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Partner directly with customer engineering teams to understand requirements and integration challenges, and clearly communicate technical findings, risks, recommendations, and next steps.
  • Collaborate across hardware, firmware, FPGA, software, mechanical, systems, manufacturing, and test engineering teams, providing feedback that improves product design, testability, and reliability.
  • Support circuit modifications, prototypes, test hardware, and engineering changes as needed, while independently driving assigned technical problems to resolution.

All About You

We seek individuals who share our passion and determination. Our commitment to customer success drives us to go the extra mile. If you’re ready to join us in this mission, take a closer look at the minimum criteria for the position.

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Typically 5+ years of hands-on electronic hardware engineering, integration, validation, or debug experience.
  • Strong knowledge of digital electronics with working knowledge of analog and mixed-signal circuitry, including the ability to read complex schematics and board-level designs.
  • Experience with embedded processors, microcontrollers, FPGAs, and interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, USB, DDR, I²C, SPI, UART, GPIO, or JTAG.
  • Working knowledge of board-level power conversion, regulation, sequencing and distribution, plus PCB concepts including controlled impedance, differential signaling, grounding, and power distribution.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated technical ownership and the ability to work independently and effectively with customer and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Experience with semiconductor test, automated test equipment, instrumentation, computing platforms, or other complex electronic systems is preferred.
  • Experience with customer-facing engineering, multilayer PCBA debug, DFM/DFT, EMI/EMC, thermal, signal or power integrity, Python-based laboratory automation, or technical mentoring is preferred.

We are only considering candidates local to position location and are unable to provide relocation for this position.

Travel: Approximately 10% to 25% travel is expected. Significant travel to Teradyne's North Reading, Massachusetts engineering site will be required during initial onboarding for hands-on product familiarization, engineering collaboration, and knowledge transfer. Ongoing travel to North Reading and other locations will be based on project and customer needs.

Compensation: The base salary range for this role is $125,400 - $200,700. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.
