
Manage the day-to-day operations of the Haematology Laboratory, including routine and urgent sample processing, staff rostering, supervision, and resource management.
Ensure laboratory services are delivered in accordance with
ISO 15189, INAB, and Joint Commission International (JCI)
accreditation standards.
Support the implementation and continuous improvement of operational procedures and best-practice standards to optimise service efficiency and resource utilisation.
Implement and maintain patient-centred quality management programmes, including performance monitoring, auditing, quality assurance, and client satisfaction.
Coordinate multiple concurrent testing activities, prioritise workloads during busy periods, and ensure accurate and timely delivery of laboratory results.
Support the introduction, repatriation, verification, validation, and optimisation of laboratory tests, equipment, technologies, and IT processes.
Participate in staff training, professional development, supervision, and effective communication to promote a high-performing laboratory team.
Investigate and report laboratory incidents, complaints, equipment issues, supply defects, and other non-conformances, taking appropriate corrective actions where required.
Maintain compliance with health and safety legislation and hospital policies, while actively participating in internal and external quality control and assurance programmes.
Support laboratory reporting, data analysis, budgetary activities, audits, research projects, and performance reviews, while demonstrating flexibility and undertaking other duties as required.
CORU registration as a Medical Scientist.
An ACSLM-recognised MSc in a relevant Biomedical Science field.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a medical laboratory, with experience in Morphology.
Post-qualification experience in a medical laboratory environment is desirable.
Ability to coordinate effectively with laboratory management and other hospital departments to ensure the delivery of a high-quality laboratory service.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, organisational, and teamwork skills, with a professional and dedicated approach.
Ability to adapt effectively to changes and developments within the healthcare environment.
Good knowledge and understanding of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and modern laboratory practices and methodologies.
Understanding of relevant legislation, health and safety requirements, quality standards, and laboratory accreditation criteria.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, with an understanding of the role and interaction of the laboratory with other hospital departments.
