About Island Gold District:Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. The Senior Underground Geotechnical Engineer leads the mine ground control team and provides services to the mine operation following the mine ground control management plan. He/she will report to the mine technical services manager and work with the cross-shift and ground control team to assist the engineering and operation departments in safely and efficiently executing mine plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the annual update of mine ground control and seismic risk management plans.
  • Lead geotechnical engineering design and analysis, including site rockmass characterization, mine static and dynamic support standards, seismic risk mitigation control, mine design and LOM plan review.
  • Lead the ground control team to ensure the following tasks are delivered accurately and efficiently:
    • Daily communication to address Ground Control related concerns and issues.
    • Ground control QAQC program is followed: ground support installation, product quality, bolting conformity, pull tests, etc.
    • Geotechnical design tasks; Cablebolting design, pillar designs, Stope backfill directives, Stope stability assessment, etc.
    • Mine ground monitoring instrument design and installation.
    • Mine seismic system expansion.
    • Maintain and update mine numerical modelling.
  • Undertake mine geotechnical projects and work with consultants, and develop new procedures from the studies.
  • Develop, review and verify reports regarding site investigations and recommendations.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, promoting professional growth.
  • Conduct Presentations to mining crews for annual ground control training refresher, communicating new design and system changes.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Mining or Geological Engineering; a master’s degree is an asset.
  • Registration with PEO.
  • Understand mine design and be familiar with underground mining activities.
  • Knowledge of ground support products and technologies.
  • Knowledge of Geotechnical designs and Seismic risks in mines.
  • Proficiency with Deswik, ESG Seismic monitoring software and mXrap skills are an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, Analytical and communication skills.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • A Minimum of eight years of related experience is required.
  • Schedule is 7on / 7off.

Alamos Gold Inc. provides flights from Toronto, Sudbury, Thunder Bay and Rouyn-Noranda to Wawa. Pay or shift range: $115,990 CAD to $163,510 CAD
