Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer

Qatar

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to join our team in Doha, Qatar! In this role, you will plan and supervise site investigations, perform advanced geospatial and geohazard analyses, and design geotechnical elements for a wide range of structures, including bridges, tunnels, underpasses, retaining walls, and public infrastructure-related assets. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, contributing to complex geotechnical designs, risk assessments, and technical deliverables on major infrastructure projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Conducting advanced geospatial analysis and engineering integration using tools such as ArcGIS Pro, Global Mapper, and QGIS.
  • Developing terrain models, including multi-temporal DEM/DTM generation, Kriging and Spline interpolation, and 3D volumetric calculations for engineering applications.
  • Performing remote sensing analysis, including InSAR displacement mapping, LiDAR point cloud processing, and interpretation of satellite imagery (e.g., SRTM, Copernicus datasets).
  • Integrating spatial GIS data with geotechnical borehole logs, geophysical survey results, and site investigation findings to support engineering assessments and decision-making.
  • Carrying out rockfall analysis and geohazard assessments using specialized tools such as RocFall, Dips, and Global Mapper.
  • Performing kinematic analysis using stereographic projections to identify principal joint sets and evaluate failure mechanisms including toppling, planar failure, and wedge failure.
  • Undertaking 3D rockfall trajectory modeling to assess bounce height, kinetic energy, and rollout distances for effective risk mitigation planning.
  • Supporting probabilistic risk assessment and hazard mapping using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and fuzzy logic techniques for geohazard management of critical infrastructure projects.
  • Performing advanced numerical modeling, finite element analysis, and geotechnical design using software such as PLAXIS 2D/3D, GeoStudio (SLOPE/W, SEEP/W), and Rocscience applications (Slide2, RS2, RS3, RocFall, Unwedge, SWedge), as well as Settle3 and LPILE.
  • Carrying out complex 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA), advanced soil–structure interaction (SSI) assessments, and mesh sensitivity analyses for combined piled raft foundations (CPRF), deep foundations, and ring beam foundations for large-scale infrastructure.
  • Planning and preparing detailed scopes of geotechnical investigations and geophysical surveys for large-scale onshore and marine projects.
  • Preparing project specifications for site investigations for various structures including large pipelines, tunnels, marine outfalls, shafts, pumping stations, lagoons, underpasses, roads, bridges, and basements.
  • Performing statistical analysis to establish characteristic parameters for soils and rock in accordance with Eurocode.
  • Preparing and reviewing Geotechnical Factual Reports (GFR), Geotechnical Interpretative Reports (GIR), Geotechnical Baseline Reports (GBR), and Geotechnical Design Reports (GDR), including calculations, technical notes, design drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Performing ground / geotechnical risk assessments for karstic features, deep excavations, micro-tunnelling, and similar complex conditions.
  • Applying specifications and design practices for geosynthetics and earthworks.
  • Producing and reviewing drafting work using CAD for geotechnical design and documentation.
  • Supporting other related engineering activities as required by the Design Manager.
  • Working in a largely self-directed manner, demonstrating strong motivation and requiring only minimal supervision on assigned tasks.

What Required Skills You’ll Bring

  • Degree / Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 15 years of related geotechnical engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply rock engineering and geotechnical principles, techniques, and analyses to complete complex assignments within the geotechnical discipline.
  • Hands-on experience in planning, executing, and interpreting geotechnical investigations and geophysical surveys at site.
  • Strong proficiency with geotechnical and rock engineering software, including:
    • PLAXIS 2D and 3D
    • Dips, Unwedge, SWedge
    • RocFall, RS2, RS3
    • GeoStudio (e.g., SLOPE/W, SEEP/W)
    • Settle3
    • LPILE
    • AutoCAD
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant design codes and guidelines such as Eurocode, CIRIA, and AASHTO.
  • Strong written English skills with the ability to produce well-structured, technically robust reports requiring minimal grammatical correction.
  • Ability to interface effectively with clients on matters related to geotechnical work assignments.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical and non-technical subjects to clients, management, and project teams.
  • Ability to obtain MME registration in Qatar upon joining the company.

What Desired Skills You’ll Bring

  • Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Geotechnical Engineering is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience presenting to clients and stakeholders on complex geotechnical and geohazard topics.
