Job Description

Main purpose

We are looking for a Senior Gas Originator with a proven track record to join the EU physical gas desk and work in close collaboration with the portfolio manager and traders to maximise value creation around Trafigura’s EU gas portfolio and further grow its geographical and functional scope to reach ambitious pnl targets.

Key responsibilities

  • Analyse existing and new markets for Trafigura and develop sound origination strategies to identify and capture commercial opportunities through flow generation and “non-standard” complex gas transactions
  • Grow Trafigura’s presence across Europe, building and maintaining excellent relationships with counterparties, industry associations, transport and storage operators etc. in new areas
  • Full end to end responsibility of originating, negotiating and executing complex structured transactions
  • Constant dialog with traders to maximise value to the portfolio, share market intelligence, and adapt to new market opportunities

Required qualifications

  • 5 to 10+ years’ experience as Structured Gas Originator with a well-established network amongst utilities, upstream players, trading houses, large industrials ideally including illiquid areas (such as Central/Eastern/South-Eastern, Balkans, Baltics, North Africa etc).
  • Ability to structure, negotiate and execute complex commodities structures (vanillas/spread options, gas storages, pipelines, indexed supply contracts etc.) as well as financing transactions.
  • Strong team player able to take ownership of the full deal cycle and steer internal stakeholders (Credit, Finance, Contract/Legal, Middle Office, Regulatory etc) in the structuring, assessment, and approval of complex transactions
  • Eagerness and structured approach in developing new markets
  • Excellent negotiation skills and a strong commercial mindset
  • Familiar with master trade agreements, such as EFET and ISDA, knowledge of financial statements, credit analysis, and risk management practices highly desired
  • Fluency in English is required; preferably able to speak additional non-Latin European languages
