Job Description

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Functional Data Analyst to join our “Data Analysis and Reporting Automation” team in the Private Individuals Domain. This role combines business acumen with data management expertise and plays a pivotal role in transforming large volumes of financial data into strategic, actionable insights that support business decision-making.

As a key figure in the banking sector, the Functional Data Analyst acts as a bridge between business and IT, ensuring that business needs are translated into effective technical solutions and clear, impactful reports. In a highly regulated environment, the role requires advanced technical capabilities, a deep understanding of the financial sector, and a strong commitment to data quality and confidentiality in compliance with current regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Requirements Gathering & Analysis Engage with business units to collect and document reporting and analytical needs, including defining KPIs and functional specifications.

  • Translation into BI Solutions Collaborate with technical teams to convert business requirements into implementable data models and reporting solutions.

  • Report & Dashboard Design Design and structure dashboards and reports using BI platforms (e.g., IBM Cognos), ensuring clarity, usability, and alignment with business goals.

  • Testing & Validation Coordinate and execute User Acceptance Testing (UAT), define use cases, and validate data accuracy and functionality.

  • BI Platform Maintenance & Evolution Maintain and optimize BI infrastructure, including data models and metadata layers (e.g., Cognos Framework Manager), and enhance existing reports.

  • Proactive Insight Generation Monitor evolving business needs and propose new views, reports, or KPIs to support strategic decision-making.

  • Data Quality & Compliance Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with internal policies and external regulations (e.g., GDPR, Basel), including documentation and data governance practices.

Technical Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or Information Technology with a strong quantitative background.

  • Proficiency in BI tools such as IBM Cognos Analytics (Dashboarding, Framework Manager), Power BI, Tableau, Qlik.

  • Proven experience in business requirements gathering and functional/technical analysis.

  • Strong command of SQL and relational database modeling (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server); experience with IBM DataStage is a plus.

  • Solid understanding of data warehouse and data lake architectures, ETL/ELT processes, and data integration tools (e.g., Informatica, SSIS, Talend).

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint) for data analysis, prototyping, and reporting.

  • Fluency in English.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for business users and vice versa.

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration between business and IT.

  • Effective time management and prioritization in high-pressure, multi-project environments.

  • Deep understanding of banking products, processes, and regulations, with a commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on industry trends.

Tools & Technologies

1) BI Platforms (IBM Cognos Analytics, Power BI, SAS Viya, Tableau, Qlik)

2) Databases & Query Languages (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, SQL Developer, SAS EG or SAS Base)

3) Data Architecture /Data Warehouse (star/snowflake schemas), Data Lake

4) Productivity & Collaboration (Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Teams)

Work Experience

  • 5–10 years of experience in a similar role.

  • Experience in the banking sector or in roles related to Planning & Performance, Business Intelligence, Sales, or Finance within corporate industries is a strong plus.
