Job Description
hermeneutic research is a best-in-class proprietary trading firm and hedge fund. It deploys research-driven discretionary and systematic strategies as well as makes strategic long-term investments. The partners' decade-long history of success in trading and business building and a firm-wide cultural emphasis on alpha generation, open debate, relentless iteration, and teamwork are key to the firm's continued expansion in a challenging market environment that has hamstrung competitors. A hard-wired emphasis on risk management and opportunistic market participation ensure that hermeneutic research will continue its growth trajectory in the coming decades.
We are seeking experienced full-stack engineers to build the user interfaces and services for mission-critical financial applications: visual analytics platforms and data-driven tools used by traders, researchers, and analysts.
You will work on the TypeScript front-ends and the Go services that serve them. We are evolving our front-end applications into a modular, plugin-based platform that other engineers and teams build on—so you will build reusable UI modules, component libraries, and SDKs as much as end-user features, and also the Go services that ingest, process, and serve market and on-chain data to these applications. You will own your work from structured product requirements through to production.
This is a highly collaborative role in a fast-paced environment where clean design, high performance, and responsive UIs are critical to the business.
You don't need a background in trading or finance. We care most about engineering craft and will teach you the domain.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with traders, researchers, and product managers to translate complex workflows into elegant UI solutions.
- Design and implement high-performance, responsive front-end applications using a current-generation TypeScript framework (Svelte, React, or Vue).
- Design, build and operate Go back-end services with security and performance considerations baked into their design.
- Own service boundaries and data contracts end-to-end, from Go services to typed front-end SDKs.
- Build reusable UI modules, component libraries, and SDKs for a modular, plugin-based UI platform.
- Build real-time UIs that ingest and render high-frequency market and on-chain data from multiple streaming sources.
- Develop high-performance data visualizations for large, fast-updating datasets, using canvas-based charting (e.g. uPlot, TradingView Lightweight Charts) and D3.js for bespoke views.
- Integrate the front-end with back-end services through typed SDKs and MCP-based interfaces, including real-time market and on-chain data.
- Drive architecture and performance decisions for modular, extensible systems, with scalability and maintainability in mind.
- Deploy and maintain applications, keeping them reliable and performant under heavy load.
- Write and maintain automated tests and take part in code review to keep the codebase reliable and maintainable.
- Support system maintenance and feature evolution with a high delivery cadence and short iteration cycles.
- Mentor other engineers and promote engineering best practices across the team.
Requirements
Must Have
- 7+ years of hands-on full-stack development, with production ownership on both back-end and front-end.
- Strong, current TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and one or more modern front-end frameworks (Svelte, React, or Vue), with the adaptability to work primarily in the framework a team has chosen rather than staying tied to one.
- Strong, current Go experience, able to design, build and operate production Go services independently.
- Experience building reusable, well-structured UI components and shared abstractions.
- Proven experience handling large datasets and real-time updates from back-end sources (WebSockets, Server-Sent Events).
- Strong understanding of performance optimization and rendering strategies in data-heavy applications, including a solid grasp of the JavaScript runtime.
- Solid testing discipline, with unit and integration tests as a normal part of delivery.
- Genuine UI/UX sensibility—you can tell a polished interface from a rough one, and care about the difference.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and version control.
- Excellent communication and collaboration in a cross-functional team.
Nice to Have
- Background or strong interest in trading systems or financial platforms.
- Exceptional design taste / portfolio-grade UI work.
- Experience with relational databases, data warehouses, and caching strategies.
- Experience with real-time or on-chain / crypto market data.
- Experience with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or other AI-native / agent integration.
- Experience building developer platforms, SDKs, or shared component libraries used by other engineers.
- Understanding of microservice architectures, continuous delivery, and zero-downtime deployment.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and observability tools such as Datadog, Grafana, or ELK.
- Prior work in hedge funds, proprietary trading, or similar finance environments.
