Your team

We are IG UK's Crypto product engineering team, having successfully delivered the company's #1 strategic priority - a fully licensed, FCA-regulated crypto trading platform launched in December 2025. We maintain elite engineering standards through cloud-native AWS architecture, comprehensive observability, and a culture of end-to-end ownership where engineers drive product outcomes, not just technical deliverables.

Your role in theTeam’s Success

Your primary responsibility will be to serve as the technical authority within your domain–the engineer that others turn to when facing their most complex challenges.You'lltackle complicated problems and features that require advanced technicalexpertise, with little to no supervision. Youwon'tjust write code–you'llproduce it in challenging timescales whilemaintainingthe highest quality bar.You'llleverageAI-assisted development tools as a core part of your workflow–we expect engineers to actively embrace AI to multiply their impact.

Whatyou'lldo

• Own end-to-end delivery of technically complex features–from design through deployment–taking accountability for performance, reliability, and engineering quality

• Lead the implementation of architectural designs within your team, working closely with architects to translate vision into production-ready code thatactually worksat scale

• Proactively discovernew technologiesand engineering practices that couldbenefitthe team–and champion their adoption wherethey'llmake a real difference

• Remedy gaps in technical knowledge or engineeringbestpractices within your team–raising the bar across all aspects of software engineering

• Mentor team members and actively shareexpertise–you'resought out by others for guidance on all aspects of software engineering

• Embrace the challenge of working on technologies and codebases thatyou'reunfamiliar with–you see new challenges as opportunities to grow

• Work closely with theengineering managerto drive technical excellence and continuously improve engineering standards across the team

Whowe're arelooking for?

• Solid software engineering experience with a proventrack recordof delivering complex technical solutions

• Deepexpertisein your core technology stack–youdon'tjust use the tools, you understand them deeply. Expertise in Java is essential.

• Battle-tested experience building andoperatinghigh-performance, mission-critical systems–you'vedebugged production issues at 3am and designed solutions so they never happen again

• Experience with AI-assisted development tools is expected–we'relooking for engineers who see AI as a force multiplier, not a threat

• Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop other engineers–you get genuine satisfaction from helping others grow and raising the technical bar

• Solid backend architecture chops: distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architectures, and API designaren'tbuzzwords to you–they'redaily tools

• Strong English-language communication skills and the ability to work effectively in globally distributed, cross-functional teams

• A keen interest in ongoing learning, both business and technical–you'llgain deep understanding of IG's trading products and financial markets

• Familiarity with financial services or trading platforms is highly desirable but not essential

• Willingness toparticipatein on-call rotation–because you build it, you run it, you love it

• This is a hybrid position (3 days onsite, 2 days remote work) which requires supporting on an on-call rota
