Raytheon is seeking a Senior FPGA and Firmware Design Engineer to support an active program through RTL development, embedded firmware development, FPGA simulation, and implementation. The role includes detailed digital design, embedded systems work, circuit analysis and simulation, FPGA programming, design documentation, verification, testing, and hardware/software integration at the electronic component and circuit board level, working closely with electrical and integration teams across multiple FPGA and firmware designs.

What You Will Do

  • Develop FPGA designs using VHDL/Verilog and support synthesis, implementation, and debug.
  • Create and run simulation testbenches and perform functional verification in lab environments.
  • Conduct circuit analysis, circuit simulation, and FPGA programming.
  • Integrate firmware and hardware at the component and circuit‑board level while troubleshooting system issues.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams and document designs, test results, and workflows.
  • Develop repeatable and automated FPGA build and simulation workflows.
  • Participate in and contribute to timely code reviews.


Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience designing FPGA-based systems using VHDL and/or Verilog.
  • Experience using FPGA development toolchains (e.g., Xilinx Vivado) for synthesis, implementation, and timing closure.
  • Experience developing embedded Linux firmware using the Yocto and AMD PetaLinux tools.
  • Experience designing and integrating digital hardware and firmware for AMD/Xilinx, Intel/Altera, and/or Microsemi FPGA platforms.
  • Experience developing and executing simulation testbenches using ModelSim, QuestaSim, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience applying digital design fundamentals including finite state machines (FSMs), clocking, resets, synchronous design, and clock domain crossing (CDC).
  • Experience developing TCL scripts to automate FPGA build and simulation workflows.
  • Experience using Git or equivalent version control systems.


Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience debugging FPGA designs in simulation and lab environments.
  • Exposure to verification methodologies (SystemVerilog, structured testbenches).
  • Experience with Synplify synthesis tool.
  • Experience working on multi-FPGA or complex board-level systems.
  • Experience supporting integration and test activities in a lab environment.
  • Exposure to MATLAB/Simulink, including HDL generation workflows and integration into FPGA toolchains.
  • Experience instantiating vendor and third-party Ips.
  • Familiarity with motor control systems.
  • Exposure to JIRA or similar issue tracking methodologies.
  • Experience applying digital design fundamentals including finite state machines (FSMs), clocking, resets, synchronous design, and clock domain crossing (CDC).
  • Experience developing TCL scripts to automate FPGA build and simulation workflows.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
