Job Description

Senior Firmware Engineer, Machine Vision Cameras

If you enjoy working close to the hardware, this is an opportunity to build the firmware that powers industrial cameras used in machine vision applications around the world. Join Teledyne FLIR Integrated Imaging Solutions and help turn advanced image sensors, FPGAs, and embedded processors into products used in automation, robotics, inspection, measurement, and intelligent transportation systems.

You’ll work alongside FPGA, hardware, and software engineers, owning firmware components from design through release while helping shape the next generation of imaging platforms.

What you’ll do

  • Design and develop embedded firmware in C for camera platforms.
  • Build low-level drivers and board support functionality for FPGA-hosted processors.
  • Define processor-to-FPGA interfaces, including register maps, DMA paths, and interrupts.
  • Develop and maintain GenICam, GigE Vision, USB3 Vision, and related interface stacks.
  • Optimise real-time performance, memory use, and streaming throughput.
  • Support board bring-up, debugging, and firmware releases.
  • Investigate customer-reported issues and platform-level technical challenges.
  • Collaborate with FPGA, hardware, manufacturing, and test teams.
  • Lead technical reviews and contribute to project planning.
  • Mentor engineers through design discussions, reviews, and knowledge sharing.

What you need

  • Required: Expert embedded C development and working knowledge of C++.
  • Required: RTOS, bare-metal, interrupt-driven, and DMA-based system design.
  • Required: Firmware-to-FPGA interfacing and communication protocols such as Ethernet and USB.
  • Required: Experience debugging hardware using schematics, datasheets, and oscilloscopes.
  • Required: Demonstrated technical leadership and strong communication skills.
  • Required: 8+ years (Bachelor’s), 6+ years (Master’s), or 3+ years (PhD) of relevant experience.
  • Required: Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Advantage: Experience with Xilinx/Intel FPGAs, machine vision standards, embedded Linux, image processing, scripting, or FPGA development.

What we offer

  • Work on products deployed in demanding real-world applications.
  • Close collaboration across firmware, FPGA, hardware, and software teams.
  • Opportunities for technical leadership and mentoring.
  • On-site design and manufacturing environment with direct product visibility.
  • Access to advanced imaging technologies and engineering expertise.
