ING Luxembourg is refocusing its business model from Universal Bank to focused, highly specialized player in WB (in particular funds) and Private Banking, with strong growth ambitions. In this context, Mass Retail and Business Banking businesses are currently being exited and the framework for growth in the selected target businesses is being put in place.

Credit Risk Management within ING Luxembourg comprises of a Transaction Approval Team, a Portfolio Management & Credit Support Team and a Credit Restructuring and Recovery Unit. Credit Risk Management is responsible for analyzing, advising and deciding lending transactions for our key WB and Private Banking clients and supporting these clients in their success whilst safeguarding the risk appetite of the bank.

Credit Risk Managers (Senior Credit Officers and Credit Risk Analysts) are the primary point of contact for front office for their portfolios. They have a sound understanding of credit structuring, credit risk and businesses & markets, next to the assessment of related risks like ESG, compliance and climate risk. In addition to the transaction approval process, Credit Risk Managers manage their portfolio and advise senior management on strategic issues relating to risk appetite and portfolio steering.

In the absence of the Head of Credit Risk, we are looking for a Senior Credit Risk professional, ideally with both, transaction approval and portfolio management experience, who can support the team on all sorts of credit risk related tasks and take decisions. Restructuring experience is a plus.

The ideal candidate has management experience, is highly communicative and able to explain decisions and assessments to various stakeholder groups, and is solution oriented. He or she gets energy from exploring new products and services from a risk perspective and supporting the Business in setting up the required risk and control framework for the new products & services.

The candidate should have an interest and ambition in converting the STA (in support of a longer absence) into a permanent role as Deputy Head of Credit Risk / potentially Head of Credit Risk in the future.

The STA is a great opportunity to explore whether there is a mutual fit for a permanent role in Luxembourg. This is a STA of 6 months.

This STA is a second line of defense management position that reports to the CRO of ING Luxembourg.

Your key responsibilities

Your primary focus will be to step in as Primus inter Pares during the absence of the Head of Credit Risk, advise and decide on loan and review applications submitted by our commercial teams, interpret the portfolio data and take corrective action if need be, conduct ad hoc reviews, monitor RAS compliance and support the team members.

This position also entails working alongside commercial teams, developing a close working relationship with them and being there to advise them on matters of risk appetite.

In addition, our Credit Risk Management teams are regularly engaged in many strategic projects, being involved in efficiency processes, sector analysis, RAS limit setting, reporting, climate change and other related initiatives covering the wider credit strategy of ING locally and globally.

Key tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Advise and support the credit decision process for individual credit transactions and relevant credit portfolios, within the boundaries of established risk appetite statements, and in line with applicable credit risk policies;
  • Monitor and report on relevant transactions, obligors and portfolios;
  • Support Portfolio Review and Watchlist meetings and reports;
  • Work alongside Credit Restructuring Units for the management of restructuring files and non-performing exposures.
  • Complete Risk Ratings in accordance with ING policy and in a timely manner to help assure the portfolio loan loss provisions (LLP) are calculated accurately;
  • Identify industry trends or news events that affect portfolio risk, using this to adjust as necessary our Risk Appetite, Watchlist, Risk Rating or LLP outlook;
  • Actively provide input in the credit risk policy review and implementation process;
  • Work with Front Office teams to manage the credit risk of the portfolio;
  • Stakeholder Management;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with (senior) management and other relevant internal and/or external stakeholders
  • Educate and mentor colleagues ranging from junior account managers to senior bankers
  • Coordinate with audit staff, including external audit, Corporate Audit Services, SOX, as well as DNB and ECB activities

As a Financial Expert within Credit Risk, you will ideally need:

  • Master's degree (Economics, Finance, other);
  • Relevant experience (+10years) in Risk Management, Financial analytics, …
  • A fluent level in English (written and oral communicator);
  • A good knowledge of MS Office;
  • Data-minded: Experience in SAS / Credit Reporting software is a plus;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • To work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Willingness to learn;
