Our client, one of Ireland’s leading Civils Contractors, is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join their established Finance team based in Galway. This role sits within a long established and international construction group, supporting a portfolio of engineering and construction projects. The position is hands on and will involve managing core accounting functions while providing financial insight to senior leadership. The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with strong construction industry experience and proven people management capability.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage day to day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
• Prepare financial statements to trial balance stage and produce monthly management accounts for directors
• Complete balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accuracy across all financial records
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cashflow analysis, and variance reporting processes
• Liaise with external auditors and prepare documentation for year end accounts and statutory audits
• Ensure compliance with tax obligations including VAT and PAYE PRSI returns
• Support senior management in overseeing accounting operations across affiliated companies
• Coordinate and support a finance team of up to five staff, including workload planning and development
• Work closely with commercial and project teams on job costing, project financial analysis, and risk minimisation
Requirements
• Qualified Accountant with a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience
• Previous experience within construction, engineering, or a related sector
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting systems
• Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills
• Proven ability to take initiative and adapt within a fast paced environment
• Comfortable contributing to financial strategy, cashflow management, and process improvement
