Position Statement:

The Senior Finance Officer plays a crucial role in managing the financial operations of the organisation, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and contributing to strategic financial planning. This position is essential for maintaining the financial health of the company and supporting decision-making processes through accurate financial reporting and analysis.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legislation, awards, and organisational policies, and respond to payroll enquiries.
  • Prepare and lodge statutory obligations including superannuation, BAS, PAYG and FBT in line with Australian Taxation Office requirements.
  • Oversee accounts receivable functions including debt recovery and reconciliation of aged debtor accounts, with an understanding of accounts payable processes.
  • Complete monthly and year-end financial processes including balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, account analysis and variance investigations.
  • Prepare financial reports and acquittals, and coordinate documentation for interim and annual audits, acting as a key liaison with auditors.
  • Maintain financial systems and records (including MYOB), ensuring data integrity, security and compliance with funding agreements and internal controls.
  • Assist with budget preparation, forecasting and financial analysis to support organisational planning and decision-making.
  • Provide guidance, training and oversight to finance team members to ensure high-quality financial operations.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of finance systems, policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Handle sensitive financial and employee information with professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.

Qualifications and Experience

Key Selection Criteria

  • Qualification in commerce, business or accounting
  • Advanced experience in payroll, MYOB and Microsoft Excel skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy and ability to handle complex and sensitive information
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and collaboration skills
  • Experience of working in a highly confidential environment 
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to undergo a police check and working with children clearance
  • High level of Knowledge of financial policies, procedures, legislation, and essential accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations 
  • Experience in developing and training other team members 

Desirable 

  • Study towards accounting professional certifications (CPA or CA) 

Requirements

  • A satisfactory Northern Territory working with children check.
  • A satisfactory national criminal history check.
  • A commitment to our Safeguarding Children Practice and Behavior Guidelines.

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.

When it comes to training and research we partner with the very best. Our campus partners, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, along with the RCH Foundation, are on site with the hospital in Parkville.
