About the role

ADA Australia is seeking an experienced and values‑driven Senior Finance Officer to lead our financial management functions and guide a small, high-performing finance team. This pivotal role strengthens governance, financial systems, and high‑quality reporting across a diverse grant portfolio, while partnering closely with the Manager, Business Support Services and grant managers to support organisational sustainability. You’ll shape contemporary financial practices, build capability across the organisation, and lead a committed team focused on accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement within a community-focused organisation supporting vulnerable people across Queensland.

  • Establish, oversee, and maintain robust financial policies, processes, and controls to ensure compliance with accounting standards and all legislative, regulatory, and contractual obligations.
  • Oversee financial governance, fraud‑prevention measures, delegations, and organisational integrity.
  • Develop and manage costing systems to allocate direct and indirect costs across multiple grants.

  • Liaise with auditors, provide access to financial records, and implement audit recommendations.
  • Lead a small Financial Services team responsible for accounts payable/receivable, credit card reconciliation, bank reconciliations, statutory returns (GST, FBT, BAS, ASIC, ACNC, ATO), payroll imports, and grant income allocation.
  • Set performance expectations, monitor progress, and support continuous learning across the team.
  • Work collaboratively with HR to ensure accurate processing of wages, superannuation, and employee entitlements.

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in finance, accounting, or a related discipline, with at least five years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience applying contemporary financial management practices and ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory, contractual, and funding‑body requirements.
  • Strong leadership capability with experience mentoring and supervising staff.
  • Experience overseeing a wide range of financial activities, including financial analysis, budgeting, and preparation of high‑quality internal and external reports.
  • High‑level experience improving financial systems, processes, and controls, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, accounting systems (preferably Microsoft Dynamics/WIISE), and financial reporting tools.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners such as auditors.

Why work for us?

  • Increase your take-home pay with generous salary packaging options, including meal and entertainment benefits.
  • Professional development through access to regular training and on-the-job projects.
  • Be part of a collaborative and inclusive workplace where diversity is celebrated, and our culture is built on respect, dignity and fairness.
  • Wellbeing support including access to an EAP service.
  • Convenient and free parking available onsite.
  • Meaningfully impact the lives of vulnerable members of the community.

Essential Requirements

  • Current National Criminal History Check (within 3 years)
