This hands-on role combines month-end close ownership, statutory and management reporting, audit support and technical accounting judgement, while leading a small team and working closely with Finance Business Partners, the wider finance team and external advisers.

You’ll lead financial reporting, consolidation and technical accounting across the business, developing a high-performing function that can adapt to a dynamic business environment.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Consolidation

• Own weekly, monthly, annual, budget and reforecasting reporting, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and consistency across entities
• Monitor and report working capital, including direct and indirect cashflow forecasting
• Maintain and report on the Fixed Asset Register
• Manage the group’s month-end close and ensure robust balance sheet reconciliations
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (UK GAAP/FRS 102)

Technical Accounting

• Act as technical accounting lead for complex areas including business combinations, goodwill and impairment, leases and financial instruments
• Prepare technical accounting papers and memos for judgemental areas, working with external auditors where needed
• Lead annual corporation tax compliance and support special projects such as capital allowances review

Audit & Controls

• Own the year-end statutory audit process, including timetable management and query resolution
• Maintain and strengthen financial controls across the reporting cycle
• Support statutory accounts preparation and disclosures

Business Partnering & Process

• Identify and deliver improvements in reporting processes, systems and automation
• Support projects including system implementations and reporting infrastructure development
• Lead, coach and support a small team of two accountants, ensuring clear priorities, strong performance and effective delivery

About You

Essential

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
• Strong technical accounting knowledge (UK GAAP/FRS 102 and/or IFRS)
• Proven experience managing a statutory reporting process
• Experience leading or heavily supporting external audit
• Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with large, complex datasets
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical accounting matters clearly to non-finance stakeholders

Desirable

• Practice background (audit) followed by industry experience
• Experience in manufacturing, FMCG, food or fresh produce environments
• Exposure to FP&A or budgeting processes
