The Senior Finance Director, Greater China (GC) is the lead finance partner to the GC Managing Director and Leadership Team, with end‑to‑end responsibility for financial strategy, performance management, and governance across Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.
Supporting one of the company’s most strategically important and dynamic clusters, this role oversees a complex portfolio of business models including retail, franchise, and eCommerce. The position plays a critical role in shaping growth strategy, optimizing capital and resource allocation, and driving sustainable revenue and EBIT growth, while ensuring strong financial discipline, controls, and regulatory compliance.
This is a highly visible leadership role requiring strong commercial judgment, executive presence, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, highly competitive, and matrixed regional environment.
Key Accountabilities
Strategic Business Partnering
- Act as the primary finance advisor to the GC Managing Director and Leadership Team, influencing key commercial, pricing, investment, and expansion decisions.
- Partner closely with Commercial, Sales, Merchandising, Planning, Marketing, Digital, and Supply Chain leaders to shape and execute the GC Strategic Business Plan.
- Provide forward‑looking insights, scenario analysis, and risk assessment to balance growth opportunities, margin discipline, and long‑term value creation in a volatile market environment.
Financial Strategy, Planning & Performance
- Lead the Annual Financial Plan (AFP), Strategic Business Plan (SBP), budgeting, and forecasting processes for the Greater China cluster.
- Drive rigorous financial analysis across revenue, margin, operating expenses, and working capital to support timely and data‑driven decision‑making.
- Lead Monthly Business Reviews (MBR) and Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), translating financial performance into clear actions and accountability for results.
Investment, Capital & Working Capital Management
- Evaluate and develop business cases for capital investments including store expansion, digital and omnichannel initiatives, supply chain capabilities, and systems, ensuring disciplined ROI and payback.
- Oversee inventory planning, open‑to‑buy governance, and alignment between commercial plans and financial forecasts.
- Lead cash flow forecasting, working capital optimization, and treasury activities to improve cash conversion and capital efficiency across GC.
Financial Control, Compliance & Governance
- Ensure integrity of financial results across Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, with strong internal controls and compliance with US GAAP, PRC GAAP, local statutory requirements, and SOX.
- Co‑lead the accounting close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with global standards.
- Oversee tax planning, statutory filings, audits, and regulatory requirements, and act as legal or statutory representative for GC entities as required.
Finance Organization Leadership
- Lead and develop a high‑performing Greater China finance organization across multiple locations and sub‑functions.
- Define the optimal organizational structure, capability mix, and succession plans aligned with both GC business needs and global finance strategy.
- Build strong finance leaders with deep commercial acumen, local market understanding, and an enterprise mindset.
Scope of Responsibility
- End‑to‑end functional leadership across FP&A, Controlling, Accounting, Tax, Treasury, AP/AR, Procurement, and Sales Audit for Greater China.
- Financial oversight of retail, wholesale, franchise, and eCommerce channels across Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
Experience & Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; MBA or professional qualification (CPA, CIMA, CA) strongly preferred.
Experience
- 15+ years of progressive finance experience, including senior leadership roles in Greater China within retail, consumer, FMCG, or multinational environments.
- Strong track record in FP&A, P&L ownership, and commercial finance in complex, fast‑moving markets.
- Proven experience navigating China‑specific regulatory, tax, and operating environments.
- Demonstrated success leading large, diverse finance teams and developing high‑potential talent.
Technical & Professional Skills
- Deep expertise in financial planning, analysis, controls, and reporting (US GAAP, PRC GAAP, and local GAAP).
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; experience with SAP and planning systems (e.g., Hyperion, Essbase, HFM) strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of capital planning, working capital management, and investment evaluation in high‑growth markets.
