This is more than a finance business partnering role. It's an opportunity to influence the long-term investment decisions that will shape Auckland's water infrastructure for decades to come.

As our Senior Finance Business Partner - Asset Lifecycle, you'll bring financial insight, commercial challenge and strategic thinking to some of Watercare's most significant investment decisions.

In this role, you will:

  • Partner with leaders across Asset Lifecycle, Strategy and Planning, Cost Intelligence, Operations and Programme Delivery to influence major investment decisions.
  • Help shape Watercare's Capital Investment Plan (CIP), ensuring investment priorities are aligned with strategic objectives, funding capacity and delivery constraints.
  • Provide robust financial analysis and challenge to support better decision-making across the asset lifecycle.
  • Assess investment options through the lens of cost, risk, resilience, environmental sustainability, service outcomes and whole-of-life value.
  • Deliver portfolio-level insights that help executives and governance forums make informed investment decisions.
  • Support the development of benefits realisation and outcome measurement frameworks, ensuring investment delivers value for Auckland's communities.

This is a highly visible role that offers the opportunity to influence strategy, shape future investment priorities and help drive better outcomes for Watercare.

You're a commercially minded finance professional who thrives on influencing complex investment decisions and helping organisations make better long-term choices. You enjoy challenging conventional thinking, asking the right questions and partnering with senior stakeholders to balance cost, risk, resilience and customer outcomes.

You'll be equally comfortable working with detailed financial analysis as you are presenting recommendations to executives and governance forums. With a curious mindset and strong commercial judgement, you're able to connect financial, operational and asset information to provide clear, evidence-based insights that drive smarter investment decisions.

You'll bring a collaborative approach, exceptional stakeholder management skills and the confidence to provide constructive challenge when required. Most importantly, you'll be passionate about creating long-term value and helping shape sustainable, resilient infrastructure for Auckland's future.

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

  • Significant experience in business partnering, corporate finance, financial analysis or infrastructure investment environments.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or influencing major investment decisions within asset-intensive, infrastructure, utilities or capital programme environments.
  • Strong financial modelling, commercial analysis and strategic thinking capability, with the ability to assess long-term investment trade-offs and value drivers.
  • Experience evaluating affordability, funding implications, business cases and investment options.
  • The ability to distil complex financial, operational and asset information into clear, executive-ready recommendations and insights.
  • Proven experience building trusted relationships and influencing outcomes with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial acumen, sound judgement and the confidence to provide objective challenge and independent financial advice.
  • Experience working across multiple stakeholder groups to balance competing priorities and achieve organisational objectives.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with a passion for using data, insight and analysis to improve decision-making and business performance.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Economics or a related discipline, with CA, CPA or equivalent qualifications highly regarded.
