Balance Sheet Management (BSM) is a division within the CFO group responsible for providing executive management with accurate and timely forecasts of the balance sheet and Net Interest Income (NII). Another critical BSM function is the measurement and analysis of Interest Rate Risk (IRR) using various methods. This information provides the framework that allows the company to position its balance sheet consistent with its risk appetite and expectations for changes in interest rates.

BSM maintains close partnerships with various groups across the enterprise, providing key input to critical processes and strategic decisions. These partnerships focus on the following: (1) balance sheet composition and interest rate risk strategy, (2) strategic planning for the company’s three-year outlook with Corporate Planning and Finance, (3) setting the right strategy to accurately measure the profitability of assets and liabilities to ensure efficient usage of the balance sheet, (4) stress testing the balance sheet under adverse economic scenarios with the Enterprise Stress Testing team and, (5) producing the balance sheet and NII forecast in coordination with the Line of Business and Global Liquidity Management for the Climate and Global Resolution and Recovery Planning exercise.

The LOB Forecast & Product Analytics team serves as a key liaison between Treasury, Line of Business and Finance stakeholders with responsibilities in building short-term, strategic and stress forecasts. The LOB Forecast & Product Analytics team develops subject matter expertise on their respective coverage areas to understand balance and pricing trends, industry dynamics and competitor analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivers forecast analysis and reporting with accuracy, presenting results to senior management
  • Applies subject matter expertise of the key drivers of the Line of Business, Product balance sheet and Net Interest Income (NII) forecasts, Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP), and FDIC expenses, challenging the forecast and highlighting potential risks
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance or simplify processes, improving analytical capabilities for stakeholders
  • Delivers forecasting, securitization, deposit pricing, and annual report disclosures with a high level of autonomy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Balance and pricing forecasts leveraging quantitative and qualitative models for short-term, baseline, stress, and resolution and recovery planning by LOB, product, and legal entity
  • Produces analytics and provide insights to highlight risks and opportunities for respective coverage areas in terms of balance and pricing strategies
  • Provides pricing analytics for actual and expected trends along with understanding of competitive landscape
  • Stakeholder on various product pricing forums
  • Partners across Treasury and BSM to provide insights on product expectations to support liquidity, capital, earnings, and interest rate analytics capabilities
  • Partners with model developer teams to assist with model drivers, trends and expected results

This role primarily focuses on analyzing data, reviewing, and producing the $1T forecast of commercial and consumer loans. Work responsibilities include daily, monthly, and quarterly monitoring of the bank's balance sheet positioning as well as a variety of ad hoc analytics to provide consulting and support for decision making across Treasury. Results of these analytics are presented to senior management on a regular basis.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (quantitative finance, financial analysis, economics, or business administration preferred)
  • Excellent analytical and complex problem resolution skills
  • Balance Sheet product and Net Interest Income business acumen
  • Understanding of financial market dynamics, interest rates, accounting, and financial products
  • Proficient in MS Office tools, especially Microsoft Excel (v look ups, pivot tables)
  • Inquisitive, willing to challenge the status quo and strive to improve processes
  • Ability to meet strict timelines, ability to work with a high level of autonomy and make well-reasoned decisions
  • Strong communication/interpersonal skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience within a financial institution with experience as a Balance Sheet or Financial Analyst
  • Treasury Experience
  • Technical Business Analyst skills (SQL, VBA, Tableau, Alteryx a plus)
