Overview

Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a Senior Field Telecom Technician to support a major national laboratory.

This role involves device deployments, troubleshooting, and installation of voice gateways and voice access switches. The technician performs minor Avaya device updates and supports project-based work such as office build’s and upgrades.Basic copper and fiber knowledge is required for station-level troubleshooting and connectivity validation.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and execute network installations in accordance with customer orders, technical specifications, and industry standards.
  • Analyze installation requirements, order and gather necessary equipment, supplies, and tools, and assess installation sites to ensure successful deployments.
  • Prepare installation diagrams, establishing voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables, and installing telecommunications equipment such as routers, switches, multiplexors, cable trays, and alarm and fire-suppression systems.
  • Build ironwork and ladder racks, activate remote access tools, and coordinate with contractors to ensure seamless integration of systems.
  • Verify service by testing circuits, equipment, and alarms, identifying and correcting issues or escalating them as necessary.
  • Document and label equipment and cables, record configuration diagrams and specifications, and maintain a safe work environment by adhering to codes, standards, and legal regulations.
  • Utilizing the customer’s ticketing system, you will track and update all work performed.
  • A basic understanding of VoIP technology is required, adhere to the customer's best practices and procedures when installing cabling and equipment.
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain telecommunications equipment, provide reports, complete requests for new service, and determine the methodology for installing telephone services.
  • Contribute to the overall success of telecommunications projects ensuring high-quality service delivery.

Qualifications

  • BS Diploma and a minimum of 6 years, or more, of directly related experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties.
  • Related experience may be substituted for relevant education and vice versa.
  • Ability to obtain & maintain a U.S. Dept. of Energy Clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Required Skills

  • Systems and VoIP: Advanced knowledge of VoIP, SIP trunking, IP telephony, and enterprise communication systems (such as AVAYA)
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Utilize ServiceNow and CAIRS ticketing systems to manage work orders, service requests, incident response, and customer support activities.
  • Deploy and configure IP, digital, and analog devices.
  • Support GPON voice services.
  • Identify and differentiate outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) infrastructure for both copper and fiber cabling to support accurate troubleshooting, patching, and escalation.
  • Install voice gateways and voice access switches.
  • Perform patching in telecom closets.
  • Troubleshoot CAT5/CAT6 and fiber patching.
  • Use tone generator, probe, cable tester, punch-down, labeling and VFL tools
  • Execute project deployments and migrations.
  • Document work and follow safety procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by the customer.

  • ES-7j or higher certification

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, and handle equipment weighing a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods while performing installations and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, including telecom closets and under-desk environments.
  • Ability to use ladders and perform work at elevated positions when required.
  • Ability to safely handle and install equipment in rack and office environments.
