Senior Field Control & Process Engineer

Location: Pekanbaru, Indonesia
Scope: Indonesia + selected APAC support

Are you a senior pulp process and controls expert who can turn mill problems into practical results?

Valmet is looking for a Senior Field Control & Process Engineer to strengthen our field and expert service capability for pulp mills. In this role, you will work close to customers, helping them improve process stability, control performance, operational reliability, and production efficiency across the pulp line.

Valmet’s pulp offering combines process technology, automation and services across cooking and fiberline, recovery line, pulp drying and baling, analyzers, process optimization and lifecycle support. Our field and expert services support customers both on site and remotely through troubleshooting, shutdowns, audits, studies, process tuning and performance improvement work.

In this role, you will

• Support customers with pulp-line process troubleshooting, control performance improvement, audits, startup support, shutdown support, and continuous optimization
• Work with cooking and fiberline processes, helping mills improve stability, quality, and operating performance using process and automation expertise.
• Analyze process issues, identify root causes, and recommend practical improvement actions.
• Support customers during startup, commissioning, shutdowns, and performance follow-up
• Prepare high-quality reports with findings, recommendations, and next-step actions.
• Identify optimization, service, upgrade, and lifecycle opportunities together with Valmet sales and service teams.

What we expect from you

• Strong experience in pulp mill process operations, process support, or automation/process expert work
• Strong experience with controls, process tuning, troubleshooting, and mill performance improvement
• Practical experience with startup, commissioning, shutdowns, or site support
• Ability to explain technical findings clearly to customer teams and management
• Professional working proficiency in English
• Willingness to travel and work at customer sites as needed across Indonesia and selected APAC cases

It is an advantage if you have

• Experience in cooking and fiberline
• Experience with distributed control systems, analyzers, APC, or process optimization tools
• Experience in customer-facing expert services, reporting, and recommendations
• Experience with technical-commercial follow-up or lifecycle support opportunities
