Senior Field Buyer

Play an integral role in delivering successful projects by ensuring critical equipment, materials, and services are sourced, procured, and delivered safely, efficiently, and on schedule. As a Senior Field Buyer, you will serve as a key procurement leader supporting project execution in dynamic construction and industrial environments where timely supply chain performance directly impacts project outcomes.

This role combines procurement expertise, commercial acumen, supplier management, and field execution support to help drive successful project delivery. You will influence procurement strategy, lead complex purchasing activities, and collaborate with project teams, suppliers, construction leadership, and stakeholders to ensure equipment and materials are available when and where they are needed. Through strong supplier relationships and proactive risk management, you will contribute to schedule certainty, cost optimization, and operational excellence.

Purpose of the role

The Senior Field Buyer is responsible for managing the procurement of engineered equipment, bulk materials, construction materials, and project services required to support project execution. Acting as a senior procurement professional and subject matter expert, you will lead complex purchasing activities while supporting procurement strategy development, supplier selection, contract administration, and supply chain risk management.

You will work closely with Engineering, Construction, Project Controls, Expediting, Logistics, Suppliers, and Project Management teams to ensure procurement activities align with project objectives, commercial requirements, and delivery schedules. In addition to managing complex purchasing assignments, you may provide leadership and guidance to procurement personnel while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across project and corporate procurement functions.

You will be responsible for:

• Managing the procurement of a diverse range of engineered and non-engineered equipment, materials, and project-related services.
• Leading complex purchasing activities that support project execution, operational requirements, and business objectives.
• Supporting the development and implementation of project procurement strategies aligned with project schedules, budgets, and customer requirements.
• Identifying supply chain risks and developing mitigation strategies to support successful project delivery.
• Evaluating supplier capabilities, market conditions, and sourcing opportunities to optimize procurement outcomes.
• Preparing and issuing requests for quotation (RFQs), bid packages, and commercial inquiries.
• Conducting commercial evaluations, bid analyses, and supplier assessments to support procurement recommendations and award decisions.
• Negotiating pricing, delivery schedules, commercial terms, and contractual requirements with suppliers and service providers.
• Monitoring supplier performance, manufacturing progress, and delivery commitments to ensure execution requirements are achieved.
• Working closely with expediting, logistics, quality, and project teams to support timely delivery of materials and equipment.
• Resolving supplier performance issues, commercial concerns, and delivery challenges in a proactive and professional manner.
• Maintaining accurate procurement records, purchase orders, supplier documentation, and reporting metrics.
• Supporting project teams in managing procurement commitments, cost performance, and schedule requirements.
• Participating in supplier relationship management and strategic sourcing initiatives.
• Leading procurement-related meetings and coordinating with stakeholders regarding procurement status, risks, and opportunities.
• Providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to procurement personnel and project buyers as required.
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives designed to enhance procurement performance, supply chain efficiency, and execution certainty.
• Ensuring procurement activities comply with company policies, customer requirements, ethical standards, and regulatory obligations.

What you’ll bring to the role

You bring a strong combination of procurement leadership, commercial expertise, supply chain knowledge, and project delivery experience gained through supporting complex industrial, engineering, construction, or manufacturing environments.

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Procurement, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Typically 7+ years of progressively responsible procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or commercial experience.
• Demonstrated experience procuring engineered equipment, bulk materials, fabricated components, construction materials, and project services.
• Proven success managing complex purchasing assignments within EPC, EPCM, industrial, energy, chemicals, resources, infrastructure, manufacturing, or construction environments.
• Strong understanding of procurement planning, sourcing strategies, supplier management, commercial evaluations, and purchasing processes.
• Experience supporting project procurement strategy development and execution.
• Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and manage supply chain risks that impact project delivery.
• Strong commercial and negotiating skills with experience managing supplier relationships and contract terms.
• Knowledge of procurement systems, purchasing tools, supplier management platforms, and materials management processes.
• Experience coordinating with project teams, engineering groups, construction organizations, suppliers, and logistics providers.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex procurement challenges.
• Ability to lead procurement initiatives, project teams, and cross-functional collaborations.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and build strong working relationships.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, procurement packages, and delivery schedules simultaneously.
• Advanced understanding of procurement systems, supply chain processes, corporate governance requirements, and industry best practices.
