Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the design, installation, inspection, and maintenance of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other building systems.
- Ensures compliance with government regulations (DOLE, PEZA, BFP, Republic Act 8495 (Mechanical Law), and national standards related to mechanical systems.
- Develops and oversees preventive/predictive maintenance programs to optimize system performance and longevity.
- Collaborates with cross functional teams including electrical, civil, and structural, R and D engineers on facility projects.
- Prepares technical reports, specifications, and scope of work for repairs, upgrades, and new installations.
- Manages external contractors, vendors, and service providers to ensure quality and EHS standards.
- Monitor and control budgets related to mechanical systems maintenance and projects.
- Responsible for attaining the department objectives, cost savings, other department reports and compliance obligations including DOLE/PEZA PTI/PTO.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and with valid mechanical license.
- Eight (8) years of manufacturing experience in facilities/equipment engineering, mechanical systems design, or maintenance for chemical refinery (hydro metallurgical), optical & semiconductor manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC (Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system), boiler and compressor, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems.
- Experience on quality and sustainability management systems.
- Knowledgeable with relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, OSHA, local building codes/ITAR).

- Strong Mechanical System Expertise: In-depth knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, process piping, and specialized equipment used in chemical and optical manufacturing facilities.
- Chemical Processing Knowledge: Familiarity with chemical process systems, safety protocols, and hazard mitigation specific to refinery environments.
- Strong understanding of the unique mechanical requirements for optical production equipment and cleanroom environments.
- Advanced skills in diagnosing mechanical failures and implementing effective solutions.
- Strong focus on maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Experienced with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems), CAD software, and other facility management tools.
- Experienced in selecting, negotiating, and overseeing external service providers and contractors.
- Work effectively with other members of PMD/OSP/Other COHERENT sites.
Working Conditions
- This role is 100% onsite and primarily based in a chemical refinery and optics manufacturing plant, involving both office settings and on-site industrial environments.
- Expose to loud noises, vibrations, and the presence of chemicals and hazardous materials, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
- Potential requirement for rotating shifts, overtime, or on-call duties to support 24/7 operations and emergency repairs.
- Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, goggles, gloves, and respirators, especially in high-risk areas.
