About the role

As Senior Events Activation Officer at the City of Greater Geelong, you’ll lead the planning and delivery strategic, high-profile projects that enhance Greater Geelong’s events program and public spaces. A key focus will be managing the end to end Expression of Interest, design and delivery process for the replacement of the City’s iconic Christmas centrepiece for 2028. You will oversee a range of event activations and lead the delivery of city-coordinated events including Christmas celebrations, Tastes of Greater Geelong and live site activations.

This fixed-term role offers an opportunity to combine strong project management, procurement and stakeholder engagement skills with creative thinking and a passion for events and place activation.

Work type: Fixed term, full time (14 months)

Classification: Band 7 at $109,342.91 plus super

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute innovative programs and projects that align with the major events calendar and the Geelong Major Events Strategy.
  • Ensure a place-based approach is integrated into all event planning and delivery to enhance community engagement and local relevance.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of major city-coordinated events such as Christmas celebrations, Tastes of Greater Geelong, and live site activations.
  • Implement strategies to improve the visitor experience at major events, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and engagement.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including local businesses and community groups, to ensure seamless event delivery.
  • Develop and manage budgets for events and projects, ensuring financial resources are used effectively and efficiently
  • Monitor and evaluate the success of events and initiatives, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to achieving the City of Greater Geelong’s vision and strategic outcomes by aligning event activities with broader city goals and objectives.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have relevant tertiary qualifications, such as business, event management or project management, with several years of experience.

Essential Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in using a range of tools to communicate and engage with internal and external stakeholders and developing effective relationships.
  • A proven ability to design and deliver large projects using best practice project management tools.
  • A solid understanding of economic development trends, concepts, issues and opportunities, and the role of Government in economic development.
  • Demonstrated ability to engender effective and productive relationships to achieve outcomes both internal and external to the organisation.

Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City) and are required to hold a current Victorian Drivers Licence.
