Job Description

Mō te tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Estimator to join Fulton Hogan and help shape strong, competitive bids across our roading and contracting work. In this role, you’ll lead the estimating process end to end, build accurate cost estimates, and support tender delivery that sets projects up well from the start. It’s a role for someone who knows their craft, backs good ideas, and brings a steady hand when the pressure is on.

You’ll work closely with bid teams, suppliers and subject matter experts to put together smart, well-considered submissions. Good Work here means high standards, low ego, and people who are happy to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in.

  • Lead the preparation of accurate, timely cost estimates as part of the tender and bid process.
  • Complete detailed quantity take-offs, schedules of quantities, and first principles pricing using tendering tools including Candy.
  • Procure and assess supplier pricing, review commercial and technical tags, and support supplier adjudications.
  • Support pre-qualification submissions, governance reviews, tender presentations, and post-tender negotiations.
  • Mentor other estimators and contribute to a team culture that values safety, collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • Significant estimating experience, ideally in roading, civil construction or contracting environments.
  • Experience with electronic tendering systems such as CCS Candy, CostX or similar. Candy experience is a bonus, but training will be provided.
  • Strong knowledge of the New Zealand roading and contracting market, with a practical understanding of project delivery.
  • A proactive, delivery-focused approach, with the confidence to solve problems, think ahead and keep things moving.
  • A team-first mindset with sound judgement, respect for others, and a genuine commitment to safety and good work.

  • Parental leave top up payment with additional return to work support.
  • Ongoing training and development, with clear career growth and progression opportunities.

We set high standards, especially when it comes to safety, quality and performance. But day to day, we keep things real, human and down to earth. If you want to do meaningful work with good people and be part of a business that backs growth, curiosity and fresh thinking, you’ll fit right in.
