This grant-funded Senior Epidemiologist position will: a) provide epidemiologic coordination of core HIV and STI surveillance activities, including field activities; b) provide epidemiologic coordination for the Department’s planning, monitoring, managing, and responding to citywide HIV clusters/outbreaks and related comorbidities, c) evaluate the efficacy of HIV/STI response activities, and d) lead modernization of HIV/STI data systems through innovative analytic and data infrastructure advancements. This role provides advanced methodological oversight and strategic analytic guidance across HIV/STI surveillance, evaluation, and response activities, including review and approval of analytic plans and high-priority deliverables. These include epidemiologic study activities intended to supplement the monitoring HIV and STI disease progression and evaluation of service program utilization outcomes. The position also collaborates with staff members across the Commission in the implementation of state-of-the-art surveillance, epidemiology, evaluation, and public health programs to identify, investigate, control and prevent dangerous infectious disease outbreaks in Boston. They will also collaborate closely with agencies at the Massachusetts Department of Health (MDPH) to streamline and improve communications and monitor data shared by MDPH.
The Senior Epidemiologist position sits within the Center for Public Health Science and Innovation at BPHC and reports to the designated Director(s) in the Infectious Disease Bureau (IDB). In consultation and with guidance from the designated IDB Directors and program leadership at the BPHC, the ideal candidate will work with and engage community organizations, lead and mentor junior staff, apply advanced methods in assessment and evaluation, draft professional quality reports, lead strengthening of HIV data infrastructure though data innovations, leverage technological tools to improve data gathering, and connect data to real-life impact. The candidate is expected to be committed to learn and be part of a collaborative, caring team and network of city and community partners.
