Creativity. Innovation. A desire to effect positive change. That’s what it takes to work at Fuss & O’Neill – because that’s what we do for the communities in which we work: we create, innovate, and design long-lasting improvements that improve quality of life. Quality of life is also important on the job, so we’ve prioritized work-life balance by offering flexible/remote work opportunities, part-time benefits, and generous PTO. We believe that each day is an opportunity to support one another, to support our clients, and to support our communities. If you feel the same, then you’ve found your future.

At Fuss & O'Neill, we help clients solve complex environmental challenges while protecting natural resources and supporting sustainable operations. As we continue to grow our Environmental Services practice, we're seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Compliance Professional to join our team in Connecticut.

If you're an environmental professional who enjoys balancing technical expertise, client relationships, and project leadership, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact across a diverse portfolio of industrial and commercial clients throughout the Northeast.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of our Environmental Compliance team, you'll serve as a trusted advisor to clients while helping manage projects from concept through completion. You'll apply your technical expertise to help organizations navigate complex environmental regulations, maintain compliance, and implement practical solutions.
  • Independently prepare environmental compliance plans, including Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, Contingency Plans, and related regulatory documents.
  • Prepare air permit applications and wastewater discharge permit applications.
  • Complete annual environmental compliance reports, including Tier II, Toxic Release Inventory (Form R), Permit-by-Rule, Title V, Biennial Hazardous Waste Reports, and other required regulatory submissions.
  • Perform air emissions calculations and prepare wastewater compliance reports.
  • Conduct onsite environmental compliance assessments and provide technical support at client facilities.
  • Perform Aboveground and Underground Storage Tank (AST/UST) compliance inspections and support tank system design projects.
  • Support wastewater treatment system design and improvement projects.
  • Manage multiple client accounts and environmental projects simultaneously while mentoring and supporting junior staff.
  • Develop strong, long-term client relationships through exceptional service and technical excellence.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years of environmental compliance consulting experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise preparing environmental compliance plans, permits, and regulatory reports.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state environmental regulations affecting industrial facilities.
  • Exceptional technical writing and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex regulatory requirements clearly.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to independently manage projects and client relationships.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel primarily throughout Connecticut, with occasional out-of-state travel.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

This is a hybrid role, offering the best of both worlds—collaborate in-office with a high-performing team and enjoy the flexibility of working remotely part of the week. We're committed to supporting work-life balance while maintaining strong team connection and project delivery.
