Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Senior Engineering Manager – Drilling Services is responsible for ensuring that all products and services meet the required design and quality standards. They are responsible for leading sustaining engineering teams in the execution of projects and tasks required to maintain and improve existing Drilling Services technology. They will liaise with stakeholders including Product Line Management, Manufacturing, Operations, Repair and Maintenance, and others as required to ensure that sustaining engineering effort is aligned with business needs and priorities.

A key focus of this role will be the development and deployment of repair processes to realize reductions in cost-of-service delivery and improvements in operating efficiency. Other key priorities will be to drive continuous improvements in product reliability, maintainability, and durability with a goal of maximizing the business impact of sustaining engineering resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages and coordinates activities of Engineering Department in regard to design, manufacturing and testing of products.
  • Provide direction to engineering managers and project teams on technical projects including selection, technology and design on multiple products and or technologies.
  • Plans and formulates aspects of engineering work, such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment and manpower requirements.
  • Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.
  • Approve and submit proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds or allocate funds from department budget.
  • Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects, such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each project.
  • Provide direction on technical projects including selection, technology and design.
  • Provide technical support to field operations and other company officials.
  • Anticipates possible failure modes on products and recommends solutions based on experience.
  • Investigate alternate methods of manufacturing material requirements.
  • Resolving any conflicts between manufacturing and engineering.
  • Assist the manufacturing department in designs and fixtures.
  • Assist production-planning control to maintain current “bill of materials and production routing in the product master for each part.”
  • Investigate field problems and failures for necessity of design changes and or field conversions.
  • Have ability for checking and/or approval of manufacturing drawings, design calculations, test reports and design layouts.
  • With assistance of HR, recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers and disciplinary action.
  • Represent the business locally and internationally. Liaise with clients and vendors in the specification of potential New Product developments Implement modifications to existing products to meet internal or external customer needs.
  • Involvement in setting processes and facilitating the development of skills, competencies and experience of entire engineering staff.
  • Assess cost implications of NCR, field incidents, design changes, conceptual design and responsible for informing projected costs to company stakeholders.
  • Know and understand Weatherford Quality Policy and company with all requirement of the Quality System Manual, Operating and Technical Procedures and Workplace Instructions.
  • Must understand, comply with and enforce all safety rules and company policies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience
  • Experience in sustaining/support engineering for downhole electro-mechanical drilling services tools (RSS, MWD and LWD)
  • Leadership experience in a relevant engineering field
  • B.S. or higher degree in engineering
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in planning and execution of projects
  • Background in Mechanical or Materials engineering would be advantageous
  • Experience with developing repair processes for DS tools and/or engineering for reduction in operating cost
  • Experience managing remote teams across multiple international locations
