Job Description

We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves, and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?

The Ford Motor Credit Company team helps put people behind the wheels of great Ford and Lincoln vehicles. By partnering with dealerships, we provide financing, personalized service, and professional expertise to thousands of dealers and millions of customers across more than 100 countries worldwide.

The Ford Motor Credit Company is transforming the financial services landscape. As an Engineering Manager within the Customer and Accounts domain, you will lead the technical evolution of the systems that manage the core identity, financial profiles, and transactional lifecycles of millions of global customers.

This is a highly technical leadership role requiring deep expertise in SpringBoot & Google Cloud Platform (GCP), distributed backend architectures, and high-concurrency financial systems. You will lead a global team of software engineers to build resilient, secure, and scalable microservices that serve as the backbone of Ford Credit’s digital ecosystem. You will be responsible for the end-to-end technical delivery, from low-level system design to global cloud deployment strategies.

Technical Leadership & Architectural Oversight

  • GCP Cloud-Native Architecture: Lead the design and implementation of highly available, auto-scaling applications leveraging Google Cloud Platform services (GKE, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, and PostgreSQL).
  • Domain-Driven Design (DDD): Architect complex backend services for the Customer and Accounts domain, ensuring strict data consistency, transactional idempotency, and secure handling of PII (Personally Identifiable Information) across global regions.
  • Modernization & Migration: Lead the strategic decomposition of legacy monolithic systems into event-driven microservices, utilizing Java/Spring Boot and Google Cloud’s operations suite.
  • XP & Engineering Excellence: Act as a technical authority for Extreme Programming (XP) practices. Conduct deep-dive code reviews and engage in "Manager-led" pair programming to solve complex concurrency, memory management, and latency issues.

Operational & Systems Engineering

  • Site Reliability & Observability: Define and monitor SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs. Utilize Google Cloud Monitoring and Logging and Dynatrace to perform root-cause analysis of complex distributed system failures.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement "Shift Left" security practices, ensuring all services in the Customer domain comply with global financial regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) through automated security scanning (SonarQube, Checkmarx) and IAM (Identity and Access Management) optimization.

Strategic Delivery & Collaboration

  • Technical Roadmap Ownership: Translate complex business requirements into technical specifications and a multi-year execution roadmap, managing technical debt and infrastructure scalability.
  • Cross-Functional Integration: Partner with Product Owners and Architects to integrate the Customer domain with global Ford systems, ensuring seamless authentication flows and real-time data synchronization.

You’ll Have (Minimum Requirements)...

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a strictly related technical field.
  • Experience: 10+ years of professional experience in Software Engineering, with at least 3+ years in a technical lead or management capacity.
  • Expert Backend Engineering: Advanced proficiency in Java (17/21) and the Spring Boot ecosystem (Spring Cloud, Spring Security, Spring Data). Deep understanding of JVM tuning and memory management.
  • Google Cloud Expertise: Proven experience designing and deploying production-grade applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Must understand GCP VPC networking, Google Cloud Run orchestration, and Cloud Pub/Sub for event-driven architectures.
  • Distributed Data Systems: Strong experience with relational and non-relational databases (SQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL) and an understanding of distributed data consistency challenges.
  • Engineering Craftsmanship: Mastery of Test-Driven Development (TDD), CI/CD pipeline automation, and SOLID design principles.
  • Security Tooling: Hands-on experience with 42Crunch (API security), SonarQube, CheckMarx, and FOSSA for open-source license management.
  • Agile Transformation: Experience leading large-scale Agile transformations using Lean/Agile methodologies in a global, distributed environment.

Even Better, You May Have...

  • GCP Certifications: Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Data Engineer certifications.
  • Distributed Systems: Experience with service mesh technologies and distributed caching strategies (Redis/Memcached).
  • Financial Domain Expertise: Experience building "Core Banking" or "Account Management" systems where data integrity and auditability are mission-critical.
  • DevSecOps Mastery: Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Ansible) and container security hardening.
  • Global Scale: Experience managing multi-regional deployments and understanding the technical nuances of data residency and cross-border data transfers.
