Our Purpose

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Director & Site Lead for Surgical Ireland, a rare opportunity, to build something truly new. It’s about establishing a new flagship R&D center in Galway focused on Digital and Robotics, shaping the future of Surgical innovation. You will build on the strong foundation of engineering excellence already present in Galway, while unlocking Ireland’s exceptional talent market and university pipeline to create a world-class, future-ready team.

A Day in The Life Of
Responsible for building and leading a major engineering site in Mervue, supporting global Surgical.

Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership in new product development, aligning strategies in Released Product Engineering and Multi-Channel Endoluminal Robotics with overall business goals. Drive innovation, foster a culture of excellence, and ensure the continuous improvement of the initial program standup.

Team Management: Lead and manage a diverse team of engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities. Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment that encourages creativity and innovation.

Product Innovation: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including R&D, Quality, Operations to advance components of 5 different New Product Development Projects.

  • Product Development Lifecycle: Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle, from requirement analysis and design to implementation, testing, and deployment. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, quality standards, and best practices.
  • Technical Excellence: Maintain a deep understanding of the latest development trends, technologies, and methodologies within the medical device industry. Apply this knowledge to drive continuous improvement in test processes.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks in the product development and implement mitigation strategies. Ensure robust validation and verification processes to guarantee the safety, reliability, and effectiveness of products and applications.
  • Collaboration: Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with all members of the core team. Champion Medtronic’s brand externally to meet aggressive recruitment goals.

Budget and Resource Management: Manage the Mervue site budget, allocate resources effectively, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Must Haves

  • Requires advanced management and leadership knowledge to lead cross-department project teams or manage across multiple functions. Typically has achieved mastery within a specific technical or broad expertise across multiple related disciplines.
  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum of 15 years of relevant experience with 10+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum 13 years prior relevant experience, minimum of 10 years of managerial experience.
  • Proven people leadership experience, including leading other people managers not just individual contributors
  • Proven experience scaling engineering organizations (internal and external hiring)
  • Proven experience to communicate effectively with others across the matrix.
  • Strong technical leadership across architecture, validation, roadmap
  • Demonstrated strong technical knowledge of medical device/technology manufacturing.
  • A culture steward with strong previous OHS scores to demonstrate leadership and culture-building
