What you will be working on

  • Lead technical investigations involving software-related safety interlocks and validate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Analyze interactions across multiple subsystems to gain end-to-end understanding of platform behavior and workflows.
  • Drive Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) e􀆯orts using packet captures, log analysis, and system-level troubleshooting.
  • Design, evaluate, and improve subsystem architectures, including multi-threaded applications and scheduler interactions.
  • Develop, deploy, maintain, and enhance software for advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot complex software issues, including real-time control systems.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for field engineers and customers worldwide.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance and Support teams to reproduce field issues and improve regression test coverage.
  • Author and review software specifications, design documents, and test plans.
  • Investigate technical inquiries and provide clear analysis with actionable solutions.
  • Evaluate and influence software engineering tools, processes, and design decisions.
  • Coordinate rapid software fixes and deployments in high-impact customer environments.
  • Present technical findings, project updates, and data-driven insights to internal teams and customers, including DOE analysis results.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field with 7+ years of relevant experience, Master's degree with 4+ years, or PhD with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong software development experience using C++ and/or C#.
  • Solid understanding of multi-threaded application development.
  • Experience working with software specifications, technical documentation, and APIs.
  • Knowledge of software memory architecture, debugging, and performance analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools, large language models (LLMs), and modern software engineering practices leveraging generative AI.
  • Ability to travel 10-25% domestically and internationally.

What sets you apart

  • Experience with software architecture, machine control systems, or semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with GUI development, device drivers, and interrupt-driven software.
  • Knowledge of networking, data communications, and EtherCAT.
  • Understanding dynamic scheduling algorithms and deadlock avoidance techniques.
  • Experience with debuggers, build systems, and configuration management tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot software, electrical, and mechanical issues from a system-level perspective.
  • Experience designing and analyzing complex Design of Experiments (DOE), including multivariate analysis or Principal Component Analysis (PCA)
  • Hands-on experience integrating AI, machine learning, or data-driven solutions into production software systems or engineering workflows.

About ASM

At ASM, we’re shaping the future at the atomic level. We enable the next generation of microchips by empowering leading semiconductor manufacturers with advanced wafer processing equipment.

Through our mastery of thin-film deposition, we create the innovative tools and solutions that shape the materials at the heart of tomorrow’s technology – powering everything from AI and next-generation healthcare to cloud computing and smarter, more energy-efficient devices.

With over 4,600 people representing more than 60 nationalities across 15 locations worldwide, we’re united by one ambition: to stay ahead of what’s next. And with research centers in seven countries and nearly a quarter of our people and profits devoted to research and development, excellence is our baseline, not our finish line.

Our pioneering thin-film deposition technologies – like atomic layer deposition, epitaxy, silicon carbide, chemical vapor deposition and vertical furnaces – help our customers push the limits of performance, speed, and efficiency. Our strong patent portfolio, flat organization, and agile way of working enable fast collaboration, global mobility, and a competitive edge far beyond our scale.

Every day, we work to make integrated circuits smaller, faster, more energy-efficient, and more powerful. Together, we’re advancing technologies that unlock new potential and improve lives.
