
[What the role is]
This role sits within the Inspectorate Department, which regulates the electricity and gas installation to ensure a secure, reliable, and safe energy supply. It is responsible for enforcing gas safety compliance through inspections, managing incident investigations, and emergency response. The incumbent also supports regulatory processes through stakeholder engagement, streamlining procedures through data analysis and oversight of licensed gas workers, while contributing to public education and undertaking any ad hoc responsibilities.
[What you will be working on]
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive investigations and initiate enforcement actions against non-compliant gas installations and gas inspections in accordance with regulatory requirements and safety standards.
2. Manage public enquiries, stakeholder communications, andcoordinate regulatory follow-up actions to ensure timely resolution of gas safety matters.
3. Investigate gas-related incidents and preparedetailed investigation reports, including expert testimony and documentation for Coroner's Court proceedings when required.
4. Provide emergency response coverage through after-hours standby duties, responding to critical gas incidents including gas supply disruptions, leakages and other gas safety matters.
5. Monitor compliance of licensed gas service workers and oversee adherence to mandatory gas inspection requirements, taking appropriate regulatory action when necessary.
6. Continuously review data, analyse and intepret trends, and enhance operational processes and procedures to optimise efficiency, effectiveness, and service delivery standards.
7. Develop and deliver targeted educational presentations and training programmes on gas safety matters to industry stakeholders, public audiences, and regulatory partners.
8. Exercise supervisory responsibilities as Reporting Officer for senior-level positions, including performance management, staff development, and administrative oversight.
9. Any other adhoc tasks given by Reporting Officer.
[What we are looking for]
Requirements:
Education in Mechanical Engineering
5 years of relevant experience in regulatory enforcement, compliance, or the local gas industry preferred
Knowledge and experience in gas services, town gas installations, utilities, or energy sector operations
Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and enforcement procedures
Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and inconsistencies in complex documentation and technical systems, particularly town gas installation specifications
Excellent investig ative and analytical skills with meticulous approach to evidence gathering and analysis
Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques is an advantage
