Job Description

Role Purpose

Serve as a SCADA Engineer within the Corning Optical Communications Division Engineering team, responsible for the design, deployment, and support of manufacturing and data systems. This role drives the introduction of new automation equipment, system integration, process improvements, and cost-reduction initiatives across global manufacturing sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, document, implement, and maintain essential Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for automated manufacturing equipment and manual processes
  • Interface automated and manual manufacturing equipment with plant information systems (MES) and enterprise data platforms
  • Provide appropriate and timely technical guidance related to SCADA and manufacturing data systems
  • Provide technical expertise to ensure the operational reliability of SCADA systems
  • Work with automation equipment vendors to design/document equipment interface specifications
  • Solicit and document Voice of Customer from manufacturing sites to include in system design and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with Process engineering to determine and provide process data to data historians at appropriate time intervals
  • Individual must be capable of executing project assignments, in a team-based environment, with minimal supervision.
  • Ensure cybersecurity and data integrity best practices are followed.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent.
  • Ideal candidate will possess 5-10 years of SCADA development experience
  • Able to travel globally (United States, Poland, and China at a minimum)
    • Valid passport, titulo, and cedula
  • Proficiency in English (written and verbal)

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of SCADA (Ignition, GE iFix, or similar) and control systems and components
  • Knowledge of controls and real time Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Knowledge of structured programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, SQL)
  • Experience integrating automated and manual manufacturing equipment with plant Information Management Systems (IMS)
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, MQTT, Etc.)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-cultural and remote team environments
  • Strong documentation and technical writing skills
  • Ability to work effectively as both an individual and as a team member to solve complex SCADA problems and design decisions
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to generate and communicate high level flow charts for process and data flows

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Advanced experience with Inductive Automation Ignition (Perspective, Vision, scripting)
  • Ignition Gold certification
  • Experience configuring Aveva PI System (Asset Framework, Event Frames, PI Vision)
  • Familiarity with Siemens, Omron, and Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Knowledge of MS SQL and database design for manufacturing data
  • Experience using GitLab for version control and CI/CD pipelines
  • Proficiency with Visual Studio Code (VS Code) for SCADA and automation development, including source control integration
  • Experience with automated assembly cells for discrete manufacturing
  • Project Management techniques experience/exposure (Agile and Waterfall)
