THE ROLE

Join Downer’s Water Engineering team as a Senior Process Engineer and help shape the infrastructure that supports Australia's sustainable future. Based out of our SEQ office in Brisbane, you’ll lead the delivery of process engineering services across high-impact water projects, spanning design, construction, commissioning, and operations. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you’ll mentor junior engineers, contribute to innovation, and ensure technical excellence across wastewater and water treatment initiatives.

You’ll play a pivotal role in projects that matter, from wastewater recycling to biosolids treatment, while collaborating with clients, technical experts, and construction teams to deliver safe, high-performing systems that serve communities.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

• Lead process engineering design, documentation, and commissioning across major water/wastewater projects.

• Provide technical mentorship and foster a high-performing team culture within the engineering group.

• Champion Safety-in-Design, HAZOP, and quality processes in alignment with Downer’s Zero Harm values.

• Partner with clients and internal stakeholders to drive innovative, cost-effective design solutions.

• Contribute to bids, proposals, and business development, supporting Downer’s growth in the water sector.

ABOUT YOU

You’re a skilled and self-driven process engineer with a passion for water sustainability. With substantial relevant experience, you bring technical depth and leadership to every stage of the project lifecycle.

• Tertiary qualification in Chemical or Process Engineering; CPEng and/or RPEQ (or close to attaining).

• Demonstrated expertise in designing and delivering wastewater treatment or biosolids processing systems.

• Able to balance design leadership with hands-on involvement across complex, multi-phase projects.

• Strong communicator and collaborator who is comfortable working with clients, construction teams, and junior engineers alike.

• Motivated by continuous learning and innovation, with a commitment to excellence and safety.
