Job Description

Senior Engineer or Associate Engineer – Bridges – Perth

Lead bridge design in WA—while building your leadership in delivery and client outcomes.

WSP is growing our Bridges team in Perth. This role suits a bridge/transport structures engineer who enjoys solving complex design challenges, guiding quality outcomes, and building trusted client relationships—with a clear pathway to technical and delivery leadership.

You’ll work with our Bridges, Aviation and Roads team on major WA transport infrastructure—partnering with multidisciplinary specialists locally and drawing on WSP’s national and global expertise when it adds value.

Role snapshot

  • Location: Perth CBD (flexible working available)
  • Discipline: Bridges and transport structures (roads/rail)
  • Level: Senior / Associate—focused on delivery leadership and technical excellence
  • Delivery: design leadership, reviews, mentoring and governance support
  • Registration: Chartered/registered status (or pathway) is highly regarded

The role

As a Senior Engineer or Associate Engineer – Bridges, you will lead the design and delivery of bridge and transport-structure solutions across WA. You’ll take ownership of technical quality for your packages, contribute to reviews and governance, and work directly with clients and stakeholders to shape scope, solve challenges, and deliver trusted outcomes.

Success in this role means consistently high technical quality, strong risk awareness, and designs that are safe, sustainable, constructible and aligned to client objectives—from concept through to detailed design.

Based in our Perth CBD office, you’ll collaborate with industry-leading engineers in a supportive, high-performing team culture—while continuing to grow your leadership and technical depth.

What you’ll do

  • Lead bridge and transport-structure design from concept to detailed design, including options assessment and design development
  • Support technical governance: undertake and contribute to design checks, reviews and coordinated model/drawing/report outputs
  • Manage delivery for your work packages—scope, programme, budget, risk and coordination with the broader project team
  • Be a trusted client partner—support technical discussions, resolve issues early and identify opportunities to add value
  • Contribute to bids and proposals—technical inputs, estimates and delivery approaches
  • Coach and support engineers, building capability and a culture of strong engineering judgement and ethical practice
  • Champion HSEQ—embed safety in design and ensure compliance with WSP QHSE systems and project requirements
  • Drive digital delivery and innovation—effective use of 3D modelling, model coordination and modern workflows
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing through internal networks, technical development and mentoring

What you’ll bring

Must have

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Consulting experience delivering bridge/transport-structure projects
  • Typically 9–15 years’ experience across structural and bridge design, ideally with WA transport clients
  • Proven technical delivery capability—design development, coordination and design review
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Standards and WA client requirements (Main Roads WA, PTA) for bridge design
  • Experience with digital delivery and 3D structural modelling workflows (model review, coordination, model-based outputs)
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills (clients, reviewers, contractors and internal teams)
  • Commitment to safety in design, ethics, quality and continuous improvement

Nice to have

  • Chartered status (e.g., CPEng or equivalent) and/or registration (or a clear pathway to achieve it)
  • Experience contributing to bids, frameworks or key-client accounts in the transport sector
  • Construction-phase support and design-for-constructability experience on bridge packages

Why WSP

  • Work on high-profile WA transport projects with real community impact
  • Join a well-established, growing Perth Transport team with strong local clients
  • Access national and global technical specialists to support complex challenges
  • Flexible working arrangements and clear technical leadership pathways
  • A collaborative culture that invests in mentoring, development and wellbeing
