About Carrapateena

Carrapateena is a large, modern underground copper-gold operation and one of South Australia’s most significant mining developments in the past decade. Located approximately 160km north of Port Augusta on the traditional lands of the Kokatha people, Carrapateena combines cutting-edge mining methods with a strong focus on safety, innovation and performance.

With an expected mine life of more than 20 years and ongoing investment to expand production, including the transition to large-scale block cave mining, Carrapateena offers the opportunity to build a long-term career in a future-focused operation.

About the Role

Our goal is to deliver each business plan and project milestone safely and on time with value creation at the heart of how we operate.

This role is responsible for executing the 13-week mine plan, encompassing development physicals and vertical development (raisebore), while maintaining safety performance and cost compliance to budget.

It is expected that you will drive continuous improvements in safety and production, including processes, systems and operational projects, all essential in a SLC production ramp-up and the development and operational readiness phase of our future block cave.

Location: Carrapateena, South Australia

Roster: 8 days, 6 days off; we have flights daily to site from Adelaide or 3x per week from Port Augusta

In this role you will:

  • Liaise with underground crews to ensure that new ideas are developed and practically implemented and build cross-team relationships;
  • Compile reports & provide expertise to other teams in analysis of production performance indicators and metrics;
  • Analyse and determine equipment capability assumptions;
  • Identify functional capability gaps and recommend improvement opportunities to department leadership;
  • Prepare inputs to form the production budget and produce operating standards, procedures and work instructions;
  • Provide feedback to the Planning & Technical teams to improve future execution plans, designs, schedules and forecasts;
  • Engage with Reliability teams for modifications needed to plant and equipment, and with Technology teams to explore new capabilities; and
  • Guide development of junior team members technically and via operational coaching opportunities during time in the field.

About You

You will have the following skills and experience:

Strong leadership skills with demonstrated experience in safety leadership.

  • At least 5 years’ experience in underground mining, specific experience in Development mining roles; SLC or BC experience highly regarded.
  • Experience in mine design, scheduling, and production activities.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering
  • Completed UG experience (minimum one year) is essential.
  • Shift Supervision experience highly regarded
  • Ability to interact successfully with multiple internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in contract administration highly regarded
  • Project management experience highly regarded.
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills are key
