Job Description

SENIOR ENGINEER MEDIUM TERM PLANNING

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Kibali Gold Mine team is seeking to recruit a Senior Engineer Medium Term Planning to join its Technical Services Team. The role is responsible for the development, optimisation, reconciliation, and governance of medium-term underground mine plans that support safe, practical, and value-driven execution in alignment with life-of-mine objectives.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for medium-term underground mine planning across a rolling 3 to 24-month planning horizon, ensuring plans are safe, practical, technically robust, and aligned with life-of-mine objectives and operational requirements.
  • Integrate geotechnical, ventilation, backfill, services, infrastructure, equipment, development, and operational constraints into executable mining sequences, production schedules, and recovery plans.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual production forecasts, ensuring assumptions are clearly defined, realistic, and aligned with operational performance.
  • Conduct schedule optimisation, scenario analysis, and risk assessments to identify value opportunities, mitigate production risks, and improve plan reliability.
  • Lead plan-versus-actual reconciliation reviews across tonnes, grade, metres, dilution, recovery, productivity, and cost performance, translating variances into improved forecasts, schedules, and planning assumptions.
  • Monitor plan compliance and work with underground operations teams to define practical corrective actions, improve execution discipline, and close gaps between planned and actual performance.
  • Prepare high-quality mine layouts, schedules, technical reports, dashboards, and management presentations using appropriate mine planning, scheduling, analysis, and reporting tools.
  • Partner effectively with Underground Operations, Geology, Geotechnical, Survey, Ventilation, Maintenance, Finance, and Technical Services teams to ensure plans are integrated, achievable, and understood by all key stakeholders.
  • Present planning updates, production forecasts, risks, opportunities, and performance analyses to operational leaders, technical services teams, and senior management.
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and quality assurance to planning engineers, strengthening planning discipline, governance, and capability across the site technical services team.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, productivity, cost efficiency, forecasting accuracy, and planning governance.
  • Promote Zero Harm by ensuring planning decisions incorporate safe sequencing, practical risk controls, regulatory requirements, and relevant ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards and compliance.
  • Perform other duties as required within the scope of the role.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional registration will be advantageous.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5 - 8 years’ relevant experience in underground mining operations, including significant experience in medium-term mine planning within a mechanised underground mining environment.
  • Extensive experience in underground mine planning, including mine design, development prioritisation, drill and blast assumptions, stope sequencing, production ramp-up, and infrastructure interface management.
  • Proven track record in delivering medium-term plans that support production, development, grade, productivity, and cost targets.
  • Advanced understanding of underground mining methods, mine planning principles, resource optimisation, mine design, geotechnical constraints, ventilation requirements, backfill cycles, equipment productivity, development rates, and operational risk controls.
  • Proven ability to lead reconciliation, schedule optimisation, scenario planning, forecasting, and production analysis processes, converting operational performance trends into reliable plans and executable recovery actions.
  • Proficiency in mine planning and scheduling software such as Deswik, Vulcan, Datamine, MineSched, MineSight, or equivalent systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook; experience with Power BI or other reporting tools will be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and teamwork skills, with the confidence to present complex technical information and recommendations to operational leaders, technical teams, and senior management.
