About This Opportunity

The Water and Wastewater Senior Engineer II engages with our clients at an expert level to assess their operations. The Sr W/WW Engineer II coaches municipal and industrial organizations to form energy teams, set goals, and implement measures to reduce energy consumption and GHG emissions. The Sr W/WW Engineer II is seen as a subject matter expert and provides mentorship, peer support, and quality control review. This is a technical role that requires a deep understanding of municipal water or wastewater plant operations; the role also requires a high level of customer engagement that results in generating work from existing and new clients. The Sr W/WW Engineer II acts as a facilitator, educator, and technical liaison between our industry’s stakeholders: the plant staff and management, the consultants, the vendors, the regulators, and the electric utility.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Lead, manage, and direct large multi-faceted projects
  • Engage with clients (municipal water and wastewater, and industrial) over the long term and coach them toward operational improvements that achieve energy efficient outcomes
  • Perform customer site visits to assess municipal water and wastewater, and industrial operations from a technical and operational perspective, with a focus on improving energy efficient operations
  • Calculate energy savings for system and equipment changes by using complex calculation tools, spreadsheets, and/or generally accepted methodologies
  • Facilitate regional W/WW workshops and seminars for Strategic Energy Management (SEM) participants to deepen engagement and implementation of energy efficiency projects
  • Present complex technical issues with a diverse audience in a way that facilitates understanding and consensus
  • Facilitate and communicate energy performance reporting, with Excel-based modeling and analysis of water/wastewater facility performance
  • Prepare feasibility reports for energy efficiency projects with existing systems and conduct design reviews of expansions, upgrades, and greenfield projects
  • Maintain expert knowledge of utility programs and their compliance requirements
  • Provide project oversight to ensure progress and high-quality deliverables are on time
  • Manage monthly reporting, delineating goals that have been met as well as future projections
  • Represent Cascade at regional and national W/WW conferences to promote consulting services and utility programs

This is a full-time, exempt position located in the U.S. and in close proximity to a major airport. 20% travel is anticipated for this role.

Qualifications

Applicants for this role are required to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil engineering, or a related field of study.
  • 7-10 years of experience in municipal or industrial water/wastewater operations, maintenance, management, or design
  • Extensive experience in the management or design of water distribution and treatment systems, or wastewater collection, conveyance, treatment systems, and processes
  • Strong understanding of water and/or wastewater equipment, technologies, and processes
  • Experience and strong understanding of the regulatory framework within which municipal facilities operate
  • Experience with U.S. local, state, regional, and federal funding strategies, and regulations relevant to water/wastewater utilities in the U.S.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal. The ability to listen, motivate, and empathize is critical.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to interact comfortably with internal and external customers

A successful candidate should also demonstrate these preferred characteristics and/or skills:

  • Regional network of professional contacts and involvement within the W/WW industry
  • Experience with industrial energy efficiency
  • Experience identifying low/now-cost energy efficiency action items
  • A passion for improving the W/WW world and a drive to push past “business as usual” within the industry

Compensation & Benefits

The full salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $121,000 (min) - $151,300 (mid) - $181,600 (max). This range is the national average and will be geographically adjusted based on hiring location. At Cascade, transparency and fairness are core to how we work.
