Job Description

Eversource supports work-life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Current guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. These guidelines apply to roles approved for remote work and are subject to change, based on managerial discretion and work performance. All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.

Role and Scope of Position:
Responsible for accomplishing major, complex engineering projects and for operating support and maintenance of the Energy Management System (EMS) applications, including State Estimator (SE), Real Time Contingency Analysis (RTCA), Loadflow and Dispatcher Training Simulator (DTS) software. This position is also responsible for planning and conducting research in problem areas of considerable scope and complexity. Provide technical support to all groups who design, procure, install and test systems and devices that will repair, replace, improve or increase the electrical transmission and distribution system.

Role and Scope of Position:

Responsible for accomplishing major, complex engineering projects and for operating support and maintenance of the Energy Management System (EMS) applications, including State Estimator (SE), Real Time Contingency Analysis (RTCA), Loadflow and Dispatcher Training Simulator (DTS) software. This position is also responsible for planning and conducting research in problem areas of considerable scope and complexity. Provide technical support to all groups who design, procure, install, and test systems and devices that are repaired, replaced, improved or increased the electrical transmission and distribution system.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains complex computer simulation software (EMS, DTS, etc.) used for analyses in support of system adequacy evaluations, technical analysis of system reliability during equipment outages and monitoring/evaluating the reliability of the electric system on a real-time basis with a high level of convergence/solution confidence including the development and production of reports documenting EMS software performance.
  • Develops new or refined processes and/or methods to monitor and report discrepancies between system telemetry and EMS solutions to improve the accuracy of system telemetry.
  • Trains the Transmission System Operators in the use of EMS applications.
  • Designs, constructs and implements major/complex systems requiring a high degree of responsibility and appreciable latitude for independent action and decision making to fit the Company’s objectives, conforming to industry standards and corporate transmission planning standards and guidelines of federal, state and local regulations.
  • Works with Engineers in System Planning, Transmission Asset Strategy, engineers and operating personnel elsewhere in the Company in performing analyses and providing technical support for operating issues.
  • Provides technical and functional support to upper management concerning impact of innovative technologies and projects. Participates in conferences with other engineers to obtain problem-solving ideas. Represents the Company on efforts requiring coordination with ISO-NE and other control centers.
  • Investigate and evaluate innovative technologies for which engineering precedents are lacking, evaluating their potential for the Company.
  • Supports the creation and operation of Dispatcher training scenarios used on the DTS and creates and supports programs to train Transmission System Operators in the use of EMS applications.
  • Develop operational and emergency action plans for electric transmission system and bulk supply substations which support the distribution system.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Demonstrated knowledge in power systems analysis.
  • Technical understanding of the parameters and functions of the operation of the power delivery system and power system theory
  • Demonstrated knowledge in working with advanced electric system modeling software, such as State Estimator and Loadflow applications.
  • Demonstrated creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving engineering problems.
  • Proficiency with PC desktop applications (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel)

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Power Systems, Engineering or related discipline.
  • Master’s Degree or MBA preferred.

  • At least Five years related experience is required.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
