Seeking a highly skilled Tunnel Design Engineer with strong experience in underground engineering works and numerical modelling to support complex tunnelling projects. The ideal candidate will have design experience in TBM and NATM construction methods, proven capability with geotechnical and structural analysis software (e.g., PLAXIS, MIDAS GTS NX, RS2 or similar), and a deep understanding of soil-structure interaction and underground geo-structures.

Key Responsibilities
Analyses and Design

Lead and execute detailed design of tunnel alignments, support systems, and lining structures for both TBM and NATM/SEM methodologies.

Perform geotechnical and structural analyses, including finite element and numerical modelling to evaluate ground behavior, tunnel lining performance, and soil–structure interaction.

Use industry-standard software such as Midas GTS NX, PLAXIS2D/3D and/or equivalent for modelling analysis, interpretation, and validation of results.

Ground Investigation and Interpretation

Review and interpret geotechnical data and develop design parameters. Assess risk and ground conditions to optimize design strategies and recommend mitigation measures.

Documentation and Reporting

Prepare detailed design calculations, technical reports, checking of drawings, specifications, and design deliverables.

Provide design rationale and documentation for internal and client review.
Multi-disciplinary Coordination

Collaborate effectively with geotechnical, structural and project teams to integrate design solutions seamlessly.

Participate in design reviews, value engineering sessions, constructability assessments, and client meetings.

Support and Mentoring

Provide technical guidance within the engineering team; support junior engineers and coordinate design efforts as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills
Education

Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering/Underground Structure/Tunnels (or equivalent) from a renowned institute

Experience

• 7–9+ years of hands-on experience in tunnel design and underground engineering, preferably on large infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience in TBM and NATM (SEM/SCL) support design, ground support systems, and underground structure design.
• Strong understanding of soil-structure interaction, rock and soil mechanics, and geotechnical engineering principles.

Software Proficiency

• Advanced proficiency with Midas GTS NX, PLAXIS 2D/3D, RS2/RS3, UnWedge, RocPlane, SWedge and/or equivalent FEM/Numerical Analysis tools for underground and geotechnical modelling.
• Familiarity with CAD and modelling tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) is a plus.

Technical Competencies

• Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and numerical skills.
• Ability to interpret complex geotechnical data and translate it into robust design decisions.
• Good report writing skills and excellent communication abilities to articulate technical concepts clearly.

Professional Attributes

• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of multi-disciplinary teams.
• Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to handle multiple priorities.
• Professional engineering certification or membership is desirable
