Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Engineer (Full Stack) based in India.
This is a senior-level engineering opportunity focused on building reliable integrations and data products that connect a fundraising platform with the systems nonprofits depend on.
You’ll operate as a problem solver, taking ownership of ambiguous challenges from discovery through implementation and long-term maintenance.
The role combines backend and frontend engineering with API design, data movement, observability, and third-party integrations.
You’ll work extensively with Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and modern web technologies.
Your work will directly influence data integrity, customer experience, and the reliability of critical integrations at scale.
You’ll join a fully remote, globally distributed team with a flat structure and a strong emphasis on pragmatic, maintainable engineering.
The environment encourages autonomy, thoughtful technical decisions, collaboration, and shipping meaningful improvements without unnecessary process.
Accountabilities
- Own integrations end to end: Build, operate, and continuously improve CRM and large-scale data synchronization integrations, treating them as long-lived products rather than one-time projects.
- Ensure reliable data movement: Design systems that safely transfer records between platforms while handling deduplication, partial failures, retries, idempotency, and interrupted processing.
- Build observability into integrations: Develop monitoring, logging, error reporting, and diagnostic capabilities that make synchronization issues visible and actionable before they affect customers.
- Design durable APIs and webhooks: Create thoughtful data models and public-facing interfaces, with careful consideration for versioning, pagination, naming conventions, and error handling.
- Apply strong product judgment: Evaluate requirements through a customer-focused lens, challenge unnecessary complexity, and help prioritize engineering work based on customer value, feasibility, and impact.
- Collaborate and deliver: Work closely with engineering, product, and support teams, contribute to code reviews, help resolve technical escalations, and balance delivery speed with long-term quality.
- Maintain engineering knowledge: Keep developer documentation, internal guides, and technical references accurate and useful, particularly where historical architectural decisions affect current integrations.
- Drive ambiguous problems to resolution: Determine what work is required to solve complex problems, make informed trade-offs, and take ownership through completion without relying on highly detailed specifications.
Requirements
- Strong experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs, including practical judgment around versioning, pagination, and error semantics.
- Demonstrated experience integrating with third-party systems you do not control, including handling rate limits, retries, partial failures, idempotency, and webhook delivery.
- Proven ability to move data between systems with different or incompatible data models, including record mapping, deduplication, and reconciliation.
- Strong proficiency with Ruby and Ruby on Rails, including designing data models and Rails objects for medium-sized features.
- Solid PostgreSQL and SQL skills, including the ability to write complex operational and bulk queries and interpret PostgreSQL EXPLAIN output.
- Experience writing robust automated tests that validate application behavior rather than implementation details; familiarity with Minitest is preferred.
- Strong independent problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to take ambiguous requirements, identify the underlying work, and deliver practical solutions.
- Ability to make thoughtful technical trade-offs while maintaining realistic expectations around timelines, complexity, and engineering quality.
- Team-oriented approach, including a willingness to support colleagues, unblock teammates, participate constructively in code reviews, and prioritize overall team effectiveness.
- Familiarity with frontend technologies such as JavaScript, Hotwire, Turbo, Stimulus, semantic HTML, and CSS is valuable for the full-stack nature of the position.
- Experience with OAuth, webhooks, relational databases, object-oriented programming, and MVC architectures is highly relevant.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a distributed, remote environment.
Benefits
- Fully remote work from India.
- Annual salary of $52,200–$58,000 USD, depending on experience and location.
- Eligibility for an employee equity plan through stock options.
- Up to $1,500 reimbursement for home-office expenses and professional development.
- Generous paid time off, including 21 days of PTO, with birthday time included.
- 8 holidays of your choice and 2 paid volunteer days
- Wellness program offering fitness and mindfulness classes.
- Opportunity to work with a globally distributed team in a flat, collaborative environment.
- Meaningful opportunity to build technology that supports nonprofit organizations and their fundraising efforts.
- Strong emphasis on autonomy, professional growth, engineering quality, and practical problem solving.
